There's little enough undeveloped space in San Jose now, no good reason to lose this unique parcel.

I was on the Coyote Creek Long Range Land Utilization Task Force of 1990, and we discussed this parcel. Our intent was that it would remain an orchard, one of the last reminders of this, "the Valley of the Heart's Delight". It seemed most appropriate that it was adjacent to the History Museum: the old farm houses went well with the old orchard. And the orchard should be maintained, at least minimally: don't need to optimize crop yield, but it would be nice to replace dead trees periodically (every couple years?) so as to maintain the characteristic grid pattern. (I also served 8 years on the County Parks Commission, and we tried to find some other remnant orchards to preserve as well, but the one in Kelley Park was the only one left that I know of.) It's truly a shame that the old Kelley House at the center of the park was not preserved and restored as a visitor's center -- don't take away the Kelley Orchard as well! Keep the trees!

Absolutely agree. This was not the intent when this land was so generously donated to the city!
