Save California State Highway 174

When you devalue our homes, do you expect we'll be able to buy another in Nevada County for the price you give us???

I believe that if Hwy 174 is made wider there will be people who go faster and we will end up with a dangerous road like Hwy 49. We need more CHP presence on Hwy 174 to stop speeding and tailgating.

This project will only cause people to drive faster and cause more accidents,to say nothing about the loss of a scenic road.

There's a lot more important work to be done like trees hanging over roads ready to fall .People will just drive faster after your project.

There are two realities here. Caltrans will say they must do the project due to liability. If this was true they wouldn't settle ever lawsuit with cash settlements. That only works once. Second, people always drive as fast as the road allows. Putting a 2 mile high speed section (regardless of the posted limit) will put the lives of our families in grave danger on both sides of the speedway as they enter and exit the roadway.

Please do the right thing and listen to those of us who have moved here because of the rural quality of the area. We've lived in Chicago Park for 35 years and LOVE it here . Safety is of great concern, especially if it is done wisely. Thank you.

We live and work at the Peninsula Campground and drive HWY 174 constantly and have for years. It is a beautiful road and should be left alone. The only dangerous part of the road is the speed of the drivers!. Widening the HWY will only allow more opportunity to speed for a short distance. For the sake of the environment, the critters, property owners and all of us that enjoy the beauty, please do not destroy HWY 174.!

I've driven highway 174 for 40 years and have never felt that it was not safe. I do not want to see this project happen and I'm happy to sign this petition.

I oppose the highway 174 caltrans project!!! Interested in alternatives that are much less destructive to our trees and highway.

This is an unwise and unnecessary project that will drastically change the nature of our scenic, rural highway and could be a precedent for other rural roads of the county. I urge Caltrans to engage with our community to create an effective plan to address concerns while minimizing environmental destruction with loss of native trees, vegetation, wildlife and bird habitat and waterways and loss of property value.

Save highway 174

I have been traveling Hwy. 174 for 30 years and accidents have never been an issue in terms of it being a dangerous road. The proposed "improvements" are horrendous for the landscape and property owners and will be a scar on one of the loveliest byways leading to our treasured rural community.

14 million dollars a mile,your kidding right?

I love taking my daughter to school from Colfax to Grass Valley on 174. It is such beautiful serene drive with the beautiful trees. The road does not need to be widened people need to drive properly and it should be patrolled better. I never see law enforcement on the way there or back.

Faster speeds do not increase safety. The is a beautiful space of road, and any changes should be well thought out with the opinions and ideas of those who drive it daily incorporated into the plan. Also a bike lane is a much needed addition to this scenic drive.

Please preserve the beauty of our 174. Enough with the widening, tree falling, property effects of widening roads. It's not right to "cherry pick" years with aberrant statistics.

Please do not waste taxpayer money on this. We need the vegetation and love it. Please explore alternatives to this plan.
