Save California State Highway 174

This is supposed to be a "scenic" highway. This alteration would make it a speedway. If we thought the accident rate is high, we will see more accidents due to people driving faster than the now stated 45 mile per hour limit.

There are other ways to achieve safety goals on this beautiful historic roadway without such extensive condemnation of private property, destruction of trees and property values, and gross over-spending of taxpayer dollars.

My cousin lives in Nevada City and enjoy taking Hwy 174 and enjoy the scenic views. Please don't widen this beautiful scenic highway!!!

Why don't we ever blame the drivers? Wouldn't it be prudent to reduce speed limits, increase ticketing, and/or find other ways to increase safe driving on that stretch road?

This is not a well-conceived project, and needs to be reconsidered. With community input.

We need to slow down. Life is fast enough.

I drive down highway 174 and do not believe altering the highway would outweigh the negative impacts that would occur if the highway is altered.

I drive this road every day to and from work. There is never a problem with traffic and congestion. The proposed project is unnecessary and would be a devastating blow to our gorgeous area. It is completely unnecessary. As I said I drive the road every day. It is a safe road to drive on and this project would not make it any more safe than its current state.

These plans are too extreme and will make this road more dangerous.

This is a beautiful drive, a beautiful entrance to introduce you to what grass valley is all about.... a community coexisting in harmony with nature.

More roads = more traffic. Enough now!

There is never a need for wider lanes. I am an urban planner, and so much research shows that a wider road has never lessened traffic and congestion. You’ll only impact the lives of people who live along the HWY negatively. Please think about the people in the community

Keep the trees!!!

Please Caltrans. Spend that money where it is needed Please leave our 174 as is

More necessary to spend money on 174 where safety has always been compromised such as the 174 /Rollins Lake red curve where we have seen so many and frequent accidents

I drive this stretch from Weimar to Grass Valley, six days a week. This is not the most dangerous part of the commute. I think more should be done near the Bear River bridge to highlight the very slow speed limit as in flashing caution lights or some kind of rumble strips. The other area that is also very dangerous is the corner where RollinsLake Road meets Highway 174 in Placer County. The traffic coming from Rollins Lake Road should have a stop sign stating it is a one way stop. Both of these areas have a very high accident and in some cases fatality rate. I believe if you make a windy road straight and widen it, people will probably just drive faster. I don't believe Highway 174 needs your expensive Band-Aid. It is a beautiful drive, not a freeway. Your proposal is also every homeowners worst nightmare.

Keep 174 beautiful !

An extreme overbuild proposal. Will only cause traffic slowdowns and accidents at road narrowing sections. Completely inappropriate design for environment and current residence.

I neglected to mention that I have driven Hwy 174 for the past 20 years for my commute. The problem is not the road, but the drivers who are speeding, tailgating, & driving while distracted...just not paying attention. The easier the road is to navigate (read: straighter and wider) the more complacent drivers will be become, as we've seen what's happened with Hwy 49
