Such an unnecessary waste of taxpayer money. Hire more CHP to patrol.

I apologize the hwy 174 caltrans project. We can't afford to have another highway like Hwy 49 - which has seen horrible deaths this year. I began driving hwy 174 - after seeing: 1) a dead woman in the middle of Hwy 49 following a high speed accident. 2) Seeing the wreckage of two Bear River High School boys following a fatal accident 3) Coming upon another fatal accident - a local physician's husband 4) countless other accidents. The more people are piped through 174 - at faster rates - the more deaths will occur.

This kind of money should be used where it's needed, not waste it on a project to destroy this beautiful area causing more harm than good!

Too expensive. Too destructive. Does not solve problems.

Don't need to widen this road

I drive this road at least once a day. The proposed changes by CalTrans will make 174 more dangerous not safer. I hope we can make a difference and safe our rural county road.

Money could be used for necessary things other than this.

It is a scenic highway not an interstate. The money could be better spent looking at creating bike lanes.

Unnecessary work, better allocation of funds can be found.

Don't you just hate it when someone wants to fix something that's not broken, worse yet, with YOUR MONEY!! Just say NO! Loud and clear! NO NO NO NO NO NO... sign the petitions, tell your friends, neighbors, family... get them involved, too! THANKS!

Thanks to Peter VanZant, Phil Carvell, and a few others are shaking their index fingers at the CalTrans statistics. It is obvious, CalTrans has FEDERAL money and they are itchy to spend it... to the detriment of our lovely, rural, meandering Hwy 174.

Redo the skewed stats. This is just fine. Leave it alone & spend that money repairing bridges or older roads.

A separated bike path would do more to improve motorist and bicyclist safety than adding more car lanes and increasing speeds.

This is bureaucratic nonsense. This highway is lightly travelled.

I will loose a very large portion of property and my well will be compromised.

I live in Peardale, just off Hwy 174. I also agree with Phil Carville that this project needs to be reworked. It's simply overkill for what needs to happen on Hwy 174. Look at recent statistics, not from several years ago. The real danger is Hwy 49, not 174.

I live near Hwy 174 & use it frequently. I agree with Phil Carville's proposed design with a bike lane!!! We DO NOT need a super highway out of Grass Valley to Colfax that will cause higher speeds & more deaths!

this is a repeat of caltrans plan 30 yrs. ago. we stopped it then and we can do it again. The money would be better spent on hwy 49 and hwy 20 E. Those two lane roads have far more deaths over the same time period.

There are a LOT of other roads that need the money that would be spent on 174.
