Please do not go forward with this project! This will destroy the scenic byway and force people out of their homes. Spend the money on the obvious choice of fixing highway 49.

Soo not needed. I use it all the time from Nevada City to Colfax. Never ever crowded!! How can they take land away from people and KILL trees? HORRIBLE idea. STOP IT

People will continue to speed and challenge every curve that makes our roadways interesting and unique to our area. People need to drive with care no matter the width of the road. More people and less trees is not going to solve the problem. Wake up people!!

This is a waste of public funds. Highway 174 is a curvy, rural road. You could post a couple of Highway Patrol officers along it for years with that money, continually ticket people and simply slow everyone down. That would be a much cheaper, easier solution to the problem.

I am 100% local. Born, raised and currently bringing up 3 kids of my own in the Peardale/Chicago Park area. We've all seen the changes, some good and some bad. I however do not believe that this project will have nearly enough positive effects to justify this expense to our community. In fact, I believe the increase in speed along with widening the roads will actually contribute to an increase in fatalities. People drive Hwy 174 to enjoy the beauty of the trees as well as a little slower pace of life. We don't need another Hwy 49 and that's what we're going to end up with. It's very sad and I completely support this petition to OPPOSE this Caltrans project. People really need to stop and think what makes this place so amazing and stop trying to change it!!

This project must have alternatives. If you straighten out a road, people WILL drive faster and it will be a worse problem for traffic. It's taking too much private property for the "perceived" danger. I'd like to see the funds directed to improving safety on 49.

Have alternative improvements been sufficiently considered? This seems like a very expensive, environmentally and aesthetically insensitive path that also condemns a considerable amount of private property. Can't we do better than that?

I have lived here in Chicago Park for almost 40 yrs. and there has NEVER been a traffic hazard before , but if you straighten out those few curves it will cause 174 to be a DEATH alley like Hwy 49!!! And it will KIll 1800 trees in the process!! NO NO NO DONT DO IT!!!!

Please stop this destructive project on this beautiful rural road and spend the money to improve the safety on Hwy 49. You need to make 49 safer,and not destroy yet another Hwy before you fix the first one! It would only make yet another ugly and dangerous mess and destroy many properties and historical trails! We are not a big city!

No way! I've been driving this highway ever since I could- 60 mile commute one way to Loretto High School for four years, plus the back and forth from UC Davis now. This highway, full of character and beauty, should simply be maintained for safety. Don't ruin our highway!!

I think widening of Highway 174 is a bad idea. This is such a beautiful drive and I would be so sad to see it disappear. I have driven along this road since I was a child and I would be devastated if this goes through. Please do not let this happen
