Please save this road.. expanding will ruin the surrounding area and bring in more traffic

I supported the increased gas and car registration tax to fix our existing roads, not straightening them to increase the speed limit so impatient drivers can make the roads more dangerous. Don't ruin the 174 corridor by Rosevilling this highway.

I just moved right off of 174 and love it. I don't mind driving slower and getting to enjoy the trees. Save the money for mudslides.

This is a beautiful highway and there are other means to ensure safety - don't ruin it!

There has to be a less destructive way to do this upgrade.

I fairly often drive highway 174 between Colfax and Grass Valley. I have often wondered as I drive it why Caltrans proposes to change it. It is such a lovely drive and not difficult to navigate. The proposed changes are a complete waste of money and will clear cut trees needlessly, not to mention the confiscation of 14 acres of property. I am completely opposed to this project. Caltrans needs to save the $28 million and use it more appropriately to fix truly dangerous stretches of road. Furthermore, motorists have a choice to use highway 49 instead if they wish to drive at a higher speed.

We don't want another hwy 49. What we want is to keep our beautiful curvy tree lined country road.

I have lived on Greenhorn Access Rd. for over 40 years. The traffic has increased greatly in these years and goes to fast already. If widened as proposed people will go even faster and cause more accidents. This is a scenic highway and should be kept that way. I am greatly opposed to this project.

Why, why, why? This expansion makes no sense.

There are more accidents @ You Bet & 174 since @ get made it safer by widening it than there ever was. They could put in caution signs that would flash when vehicles were exiting Greenhorn Acess Road. There are different things that could be done & not cost that kind of money. Just put on your thinking cap. Have people submitt their ideas.

Completely unacceptable - will destroy beauty, & ironically make it more dangerous, as people drive even faster. This will solve nothing, cost a terrible amount of taxpayer money, and will destroy natural beauty.

I'm sick that Cal Trans or the state can decide to cut down all these trees and ruin the beauty of this community. This is the reason we choose to live here! They want to turn 174 into another hwy 49! To in courage people to drive faster and cause more accidents! How many more accidents happen now on 49 than it did when it was a beautiful 2-lane road? It sickens me.

I grew up on this road and this area. It would be a shame to ruin such a beautiful drive.

Caltrans can do better. Much better! Let's collaborate and come up with a plan that we all can support. Highway 174 is a "road less traveled" and an historic gem, once home to the 49'er Fruit Trail. http://www.sierraculture.com/food/best-food-and-wine-tasting-road-trips-around-truckee-donner-summit-auburn-and-grass-valley/#.WZnhucbMxsM

Please stop this project and don't destroy people's homes -- work on making Hwy 49 safe instead.
