Petition to halt the demolition of the Building
And restore it for usage by the citizens of North Trenton
Petition summary and background The Community Building, at 86 Washington Street, is needed for the well-being of the community of North Trenton. It is not as unsound as has been reported. For example, the exterior siding/facade can easily be removed and the underlying brick and concrete block building structure cleaned and repaired, and any openings in this core structure can be easily and economically patched. The cost of repairing the building and bringing it up to code is not as high as constructing a new building. Since a park center building is Necessary to ensure the Quality of Life of our otherwise somewhat isolated neighborhood, we feel that simply tearing the existing building down, and essentially replacing it with an empty field, is ill-advised and short-sighted, both financially and esthetically, and would have negative social results, since our families, and particularly our children, need some place local and safe to gather and recreate, particularly in bad weather conditions.
Action petitioned for We, the undersigned, are concerned Citizens who urge our elected leaders to act now to save this building and restore it for our use. As long-time Taxpayers (and Voters), we feel that the [effectively] arbitrary decision to simply demolish this Historical building is the wrong way to approach what should be a repair and remodeling issue.
