Whereas a compact, affordable, livable community is the explicit desire of Squamish residents; Whereas urban sprawl is a major contributor of greenhouse gases causing Climate Change; Therefore we petition the Province of British Columbia and Council for the District of Squamish to reject outright the current development proposal for Garibaldi at Squamish (GAS) in the Brohm Ridge, Cat Lake and Brohm Lake areas.

I have spent my mornings hiking the trails near Brohm Ridge and it breaks my heart to imagine this landscape replaced by a massive resort development. The silence from the District has been deafening but your messages prove that I am not the only one protecting our mountain home.

April 12, 2010

Seeing this level of support confirms that my neighbors care as much about protecting our mountains as I do. This momentum proves that the people of Squamish will not sit quietly while our wild spaces are threatened by unnecessary sprawl.

Nobody asked for a low-elevation ski hill monstrosity pushing up against Nch'kay. Leave the wilderness wild. Brohm ridge will be snow-free year-round in 10 years anyway the way the world is going. The people have clearly spoken but somehow it seems the rich just can't take no for an answer.

Ridiculous idea. The base elevation is way too low for real skiing. Just another money grab at the expense of our wilderness.

Keep our mountains natural. We have enough development going on already without ruining the ridge for a fake ski resort that wont even get snow.

Leave the wild areas alone for once. Tired of watching every inch of this valley get paved over for rich people.

Absolutely not. Squamish does not need a speculative mega-resort carved into a sensitive mountainside so private interests can profit while the community bears the environmental and social costs. Paving over wilderness on Brohm Ridge to build a sprawling, car-dependent resort that few Sea to Sky residents are asking for—and calling it “economic development”—is corporate gaslighting. Squamish already struggles with massive highway congestion and strained infrastructure from Lower Mainland traffic heading to Whistler every week. Adding tens of thousands more vehicle trips via a private access road would only worsen these problems and further erode quality of life. Please do not turn Squamish into the next Whistler—a place that once felt like a community and now stands as a cautionary tale of what happens when resort development overwhelms a real town.
