Save East Renfrewshire Music Service

I am happy to support this

Disastrous decision- will have an impact on so many pupils, parents, teachers too.

East Renfrewshire has always been the music service that others aspire to be. It has consistently fostered excellence amongst all students, regardless of background, without discrimination, from Barrhead to Newton Mearns. The Saturday morning music centre inparticular is a febrile melting pot of inspiration and creativity where musical talent is nurtured and given room to grow. How else has East Renfrewshire produced some of the most successful young musicians of recent years in Scotland? Without this service in its current form the community of East Renfrewshire, and Scotland as a whole, will be worse off as the pursuit of enhanced skills in musical performance will be increasingly reserved for those who can pay. This is wrong and goes against everything that we, as holistic educators, stand for. Remember GIRFEC? Abolish these changes now.

We already pay for this service so Why cut it. I’m under the impression schools in neibouring council offer this free

Learning music has a positive effect on the ability of the brain to learn other subjects. It increases enjoyment of the whole cross section of education. Positive academic, extra curricular and mental health outcomes in teenage years and later in life are closely linked to exposure to music education in earlier education. Cuts will certainly impact on the bigger picture and will cost more in the long run to remedy problems which are currently being precluded by encouraging music at an early age.

How shortsighted. Have the council not read any of the research showing how much music contributes to other aspects of education? East REN has a well deserved reputation for music making. Are they really prepared to throw that away? And as for cutting primary instrumental provision...

My children are at primary school and I am hoping they will ise this soon. I learned the viola myself at the Williamwood Saturday school and it was a terrific experience.Don’t do this.

This is as important as the three Rs ... stop this cut !

Don't let it happen.

An outstanding service and experience for children of all ages. Families already pay for the music tuition. Best to engage the kids as young as possible in this type of environment.

I firmly believe my own children's high academic attainment in particular my daughter's excellent progress in literacy towards the end of primary are linked with them beginning instrumental tuition in P5 and P6 respectively. The awkward phase of not being able to play very much was overcome in primary and the instrument established before the transition to high school. My own children prefer learning on a Saturday morning but many others cannot travel to Williamwood or Carlibar and we wiuld be depriving many of the chance to start learning an instrument in primary if the opportunity is removed instead of further extended as I believe it should be!

It would be a complete travesty to shut down this service.

I personally know the Williamwood Saturday morning teacher, she brings absolute dedication, fun and and care to every session she teaches and should be able to continue.
