This simply cannot happen. The standard of this service is second to none.
Playing a musical instrument opens up whole new worlds for pupils and uses parts of the brain that is useful in many different walks of life.

This is yet another council deciding to axe a valuable provision in the name of saving money. Why is it that the rest of the planet knows the immeasurable benefits of music education but those in charge of the purse strings don’t?

Generations of people have benefited from the excellent music education in East Renfrewshire. Less well off families will miss out on wonderful opportunities.

Once again, another council trying to cut music education service and once again a petition to stop it, can we please all finally admit no one wants this cut?! Music is absolutely key to a well rounded education and it cannot be allowed to become elitist and exclusive to those from well-off backgrounds!

Not really sure the council ours voting on education actually understand education do they a bit like asking a mechanic for a good recipie for French onion soup prehaps, I am happy to be proven wrong mind you , what has the Scottish Royal college said on these matters , ?? I cannot rember hearing anything ever over the last 10 years again I hope I am wrong ,

I thought East Renfrewshire prided itself on research based education. This proposed cut will inevitably make it even harder for children from low income families to learn a musical instrument.

Shocking that you’re even considering this. Instrumental tuition has always been the Jewel in East Renfrewshire’s crown. This isn’t about those who are highly talented but all those who find music is a doorway to success into so many other areas when they’d felt previously that they weren’t academic and lacked the confidence to succeed. So many families have moved into the authority because of the quality of music education.
Shame on you East Renfrewshire!

It is vital that music services to children is not cut. It is so important to the development of young minds. To encourage children to be socially active, to give them a feeling of self worth and the ability to achieve. To contribute to their school, community and cultural society of their country.

Both my children have benefitted from instrumental lessons and playing in the ensembles. Would be a travesty to lose this service. There is a lot of evidence showing that playing an instrument improves academic performance and social skills.

An music instructor is one of the most important people in a child's musical life . They are specialists in their instrument and they have knowledge that is passed on to their students, knowledge that a classroom teacher doesn't always have . By getting rid of specialist instructors pupils will not be getting what they need to attain their best achievable mark at a Nat 5 , Higher or Advanced higher and therefore less and less pupils will go on to study music as they will not be able to meet the criteria needed for entry to university or college . A very sad day for all involved .

This is a fantastic service and great opportunity for pupils with a passion for music. My daughter has had the benefit of music lessons, Saturday and Wednesday orchestras at Williamwood and also playing for WSSO. She descibes it as a "happy place" and looks forwards to it every week and it has helped her expand her social circle of friends. It would be tragic if this service were to be cut and for other pupils not to share in this experience..
