Save East Renfrewshire Music Service

The present system has taken years to reach a level of national excellence. It would be shortsighted to jeopardise it.

So many people in charge of budgets do not have a clue about the power of music ... Unless they are musical...then they undoubtedly appreciate and hopefully can help others see sense !!

I was shocked to hear that East Renfrewshire Council is even considering these cuts to the Primary Instrumental Music Service. I have witnessed many children in the region benefiting so much from starting an instrument at a young age and enjoying their music - making well beyond their school years. Is this so unimportant to our politicians? How short-sighted have they become?!

I started music at a very young age in primary school, but was first not even considered tuition for this education due to school prejudice. I am greatful of these opportunities the music curriculum has provided over the many years as it has proves those individuals that they were wrong to underestimate me and my capabilities in music, such things they would never have considered before. Music is my calling in life which can be as well for other individuals. Taking that away goes to show how cynical people can be music in modern society, and if that's the case, this county has taken a turn for the worst.

So important that children become interested in music and playing instruments at an early age,these teachers are so important

The music service should be supported, nurtured and celebrated. Students given access to instrumental tuition carry this learning through to many other disciplines lifelong.

It is all down to East Renfrewshire Music Service that I have found something that I truly care about as have so many others. If it was not for this I would not have had the same opportunities and wonderful experiences I have had through music.

For some children music tuition is literally a lifeline. Not every child in ER is academic or from a wealthy middle class family. It would be a grave error to carry out the suggested cuts.

I learnt a lifelong ability and talent within the Saturday classes at Williamwood and it made my passion for music not only thrive but let me find others interested in what I liked, making friends for life! It would be devasting for these cuts to happen and i would hate to not be able to see children younger than me miss that opportunity.

Proficient musicians usually start at primary school age .

Absolutely stunned and very disappointed at East Renfrewshire's decision- to cut back on Primary Instrumental Music tuition? MUSIC of all subjects! The one subject that inspires self confidence at all levels of ability. The subject which enhances performance in other subjects because of the hand /eye/ear co-ordination required. Starting off in Secondary misses the point of skills development begun young. Really short sighted decision.

As someone who gained everything thanks to this service and the people who provide it, I find it appalling to consider that other children might miss out on the same opportunity to improve their lives and their sense of self value. I'm sick of seeing children lose out because selfish members of previous generations are only concerned with protecting their own interests.

I am a student studying BMus Hons Trumpet at the Royal Conservatoire of Glasgow and would absolutely would not be where I am, following my dream and doing something I am truely passionate about, without the fantastic East Renfrewshire music service. Any cuts to tuition and ensembles would be a massive stunt to any young, aspiring musicians development and kids would miss out on fully exploring their potential talent and love for music.

Would be very sad to lose this funding

My 3 children have all benefitted and continue to be involved in the Saturday music school, in school lessons, school and regional orchestras. The musical talent in East Renfrewshire is amazing and constant focus on academic achievement alone is short sighted and wrong.
