Music is the area my daughter excels in. It gives her confidence & brings her happiness. Music is one of East Renfrewshire's big strengths and it seems wrong to encourage children to play an instrument, then say it no longer matters.

If it weren't for the Saturday music centre at Williamwood, and the various levels of concert band and of course, the symphony orchestra, I doubt so many pupils of my generation would've gone on to the likes of the RCS to become first rate professional musicians, which is something the constituency so be very proud of. And to even achieve a place at such an institution music tuition must begin in primary school. The music and drama extra curricular programs in East Renfrewshire are what makes so many parents want to raise their children there. If these are taken away there will be nothing special about East Renfrewshire as far as education is concerned. You shouldn't have to have rich parents to want to pursue such a career, and for many of us, it is the only thing we could even consider devoting our lives to. I for one had nothing in common with most of my schoolmates, and were it not for the music programs outwith school hours, I would have grown up hiding in a shell and my social development would've been severely stunted. It would also be the end of the likes of Williamwood topping all those best school in Scotland lists that soar throughout Facebook and give the constituency such an excellent name.

Stop focussing on literacy and numeracy and employability. Children are whole humans. It shouldn't only be the wealthy who can access opportunities to nurture all parts of culture and learning. What a boring world we would have.

I feel music is a wonderful part of the primary curriculum and is important to a rounded education at a time when academic pressure is high. Our children need a release and an insight into art and culture.

I am totally against these cuts my son has played the oboe and saxophone at netherlee and I would be very disappointed if my daughter did not have the same opportunity.

A severely ill-informed and weak leadership decision in my considered opinion as a citizen of Scotland. This decision doesn’t relate to GIRFEC necessarily - it does, however, relate to the potential ‘beginning of the end’ for instrumental music excellence and equity within one of Scotland’s sector leading services. For goodness’ sake policy setters and decision takers open your eyes, your brains, your ethics and recognise the magnitude of destruction and disadvantage that this moronic rationalisation will cause. Presumably, as elected members of your council, you will all celebrate the phenomenal achievement of your schools’ concert band secured today at the Scottish Concert Band Festival. A band of over 50 hugely talented, gifted and committed ambassadors for your county who were awarded a Gold Plus award. Times are hard, and nobody denies that. However, during such times of ongoing austerity creativity, rescilience and EDUCATION are utterly key. The proposed saving of 33% to your fine music service (in addition to your presumably remaining £300 p.a charge) will essentially erradicate all three vital elements. Do not be so narrow-minded and thoughtless to deliver such a kick in the teeth...

The more music is reduced to a fringe activity in the school curriculum, the more it becomes something only rich people can afford. It's life-enhancing, improves learning and provides a means of expression to everyone at all stages of life. Everyone should have access to the chance to express themselves through music.

As a medical student, music was piviotal to me throughout my high school career to keep me sane and give me a break from my studies. It has provided me with many friendships, many memories and most importantly taught me how to balance my work with my relaxation. It is a crucial skill that if anything should be gaining increased funds to help everyone learn individual and teamworking skills as well as a work-life balance. It is heart breaking to see councils making something so pure into a political battle. Keep it away. Focus on the facts. There is science to prove that learning musical skills aides the learning process. Why would you consider taking that away and potentially damage a pupils education?
