I live in the San Juan Islands, on the border between British Columbia and Washington State. We recently experienced a catastrophic release of non-native pen-raised salmon into our waters. Please, please learn from our disaster and DO NOT allow large-scale aquaculture in the pristine environments of Dunmanus Bay. Just one unintended incident could ruin its fragile biozone.

I totally oppose this mussel farm. The high-handed attitude the applicants have taken at their other sites shows a total disregard for local inhabitants and the glorious wildlife.

This is another example of the attempted annexe of public resources for private profit. Is there no end to the Irish government's willingness to be co-opted and captured by the aquaculture sector? There is a reason these licences were refused five years ago, and nothing has changed. There is evidence of extremely poor maintenance, in direct contravention of licence conditions, elsewhere in Dunmanus Bay and even more egregiously in Bantry Bay. It is time the interests of Ireland's fishermen superseded those of corporate mussel farming interests and the government bodies that aid and abet them.

We need to start caring for our environment. This is an area of outstanding beauty. I have read nothing which makes me see anything other than negatives for this intensive mussel farm. Time to put preservation over profit before it’s too late!
