This proposed inappropriate and unacceptable application will damage an already fragile ecosystem. It's ill formed manifesto is based entirely on financial gain.

Please save the nature of Dunmanus Bay

Dear Sirs/Mesdames....Having read through the materials outlining both sides of the argument, I feel compelled to write and urge you to deny the mussel farm on Dunmanus Bay. This is clearly a short-term money grab with very little consideration for the big picture, which, if embraced, will in the end better provide sound and sustainable environmental and economic advantage to the area. Having rented a home on Dunmanus Bay for five years now, and with plans to return and in the future purchase a home there, I can attest to the fact that it is Ireland's respect and stewardship for its land and the culture which has sprung from it that I so admire and which ensures its long-term prosperity. Whenever I return to this area, I tell others it is not a "voyage to" but rather a "homecoming." Why? Because what Ireland has that I see almost nowhere else in the world is a profound respect for the timeless. And the enemy of the timeless is always the expedient. Please don't exchange the latter for the former; it is no exaggeration to say that such a philosophy heralds the beginning of the end of a uniqueness that makes your country and your people the draw they are. Creating an eyesore that has already proven to wreak havoc in other locations and on other sectors (e.g. tourism, other farming enterprises, the community) will alienate the people and aspects of the area that in turn draw the very people and aspects this community wants, existentially and financially. Saving Dunmanus Bay is not merely about saving a jewel in your country or making an economic choice that will be rewarded tenfold -- though it is both of those. It is, more importantly, an assertion of the values that make Ireland enviable. That is priceless.

This is a totally unsuitable site for such a development and would spoil the wonderful views in Dunmanus Bay and would discourage tourists and walkers as the traffic would be increased on unsuitable roads for lorries. The inevitable detritus left in the area would cause unsightly and dangerous hazards. It would cause the wonderful local fisherman further hazards and danger. This site is directly opposite our house at Reenmore, where we have enjoyed the amazing views for over forty years and have helped the local economy for that time. We feel very strongly that a much more suitable site could be found, which would not spoil such a beautiful location unnecessarily. Please turn this application down for so many different reasons.

Please preserve this one remaining unspoilt bay in West Cork. The mussel farms are a dreadful eyesore and an additional one is totally uneccessary. Unspoilt coastal waters are one thing that Ireland can be proud of in terms of tourism which is economically important to the Sheepshead and Mizen peninsulas. Please do not destroy the areas coastal heritage any further. Mussel farming has minute impact in terms of job creation and tourism is critically dependant on unspoilt areas being ther for all to enjoy.

We stay in this area every year and use the bay off Kilcomane Pier for leisure with family and friends. We have seen dozens of dolphins as well as a whale in the bay. It would be a tragedy to spoil this most special environment.

I love this bay and it would be a tragedy to take it away from local people. Please reconsider.

The natural beauty of this place should be preserved.

Warum muß immer alles verändert werden?!

As a frequent sailor in the area where we also sighted a whale this year and also a visitor by land I fully support the objection to further mussel farm licences being granted in these areas. They are a complete eyesore by sea and land and following storms their remains are frequently spotted on the shore. Why ruin a precious gift. I have seen so frequently on far flung shores and at sea the effects of nets and fishing gear. Why spoil our wonderful coast Geraldine Hickey
