We love Crow Island Woods...A call to action...

The Winnetka stormwater management committee and Strand Associates — consultants hired by the village — recently proposed several plans to reduce flooding during extreme rainfall events that would drastically change the Crow Island Woods that we know and love. If you want to keep Crow Island Woods safe for our children, our community and future generations, it’s time to take action.

This is a petition to stop the stormwater management committee and Strand Associates from converting Crow Island Woods into an above ground wet/wetlands water basin.

Keep the comments coming -- expressing your opinion creates a permanent record of our individual opposition.

The Winnetka stormwater committee thinks they can pave over our woods without a fight. We are creeping toward our first hundred signatures so push this link to everyone you know right now. Do not let these consultants get away with destroying our land.

I am a currently serving Peace Corps Volunteer in Senegal. I grew up on Apple Tree Road and spent many days playing in the Crow Island Woods. I am signing this petition because I do not want to see these woods, which I know and love, cut down when I was not given the opportunity to take one last walk in them.

The notion of "Saving the Woods" goes beyond Crow Island; these woods symbolize hope. If an upscale community like Winnetka can protect its wooded environment, then so can many other communities nationwide.

Crow Island Woods is a valuable nature preserve that we must protect for past, current and future Winnetka families and their children. Dumping polluted storm water within this preserve where so many children play would be criminal.

I go to these woods all year round, and it is such a beautiful and interesting place to be in to feel a part of nature. One of the things that sets Winnetka apart from neighboring suburbs is the integration of a wooded park in a school and residential setting.

This woodland area was a magical place as a child. Our Crow Island School classes studied botany here and created art projects: leaf prints and sophisticated designs as part of our science currriculum. What a gift!

We have lived in the Crow Island area for 32 years. We walk this almost daily as part of our neighborhood and love this small woods within our community. Destroying the woods is a horrible idea. Let's vote for being more creative and less destructive.

I do genuinely spend my time in niche forests/prairies around the Chicagoland area and I had ABSOLUTELY no idea about this place. Good cause.
