This tiny infraction is not worth losing the best teacher of so many students. For me, Mr. Chen showed me that History was fun after years of thinking, "uh, now it's time for history class". Mr. Chen is so involved in teaching his students and motivating us that he stays at school after hours to plan interesting lessons that keep us all involved and excited.

Mr. Chen was an incredible teacher who I had the pleasure of working with for model UN while at BHS. He's a phenomenal educator who genuinely cares about the wellbeing of his students and their growth and development. I'm honored to have worked with such a man even for such a short time.
If the allegations against Mr. Chen are true, then Brookline's overreaction is way out of place. This education system prefers to leave students inside their "Brookline Bubble" (the extent of which I did not realize until leaving Brookline), inhibiting exposure to the real world outside of Coolidge Corner. Quite frankly this is ridiculous; to sacrifice such a phenomenal educator over such a minor event is borderline offensive in nature. To value the 'innocence' of students over their growth, education, and development is characteristically Brookline and outright ridiculous. If the administration wants to validate its control over students and teachers, there are ways to do so that don't involve such sophomoric jump-reactions.

Most of you know Larry Chen as Mr. Chen. However, for the past 7 years I have known him as Larry. Larry is one of the most awesome people you will every meet. He is the CIT director at MIT day camp as well as a history teacher and he loves to work with kids. He is so nice to everyone and lightens up your day when you feel down. Larry deserves the second chance he has earned!

My whole 5th grade class tried to post signs all over school supporting Mr.Chen. Most of us have never even met Mr.Chen but the stories about him alone made us care.#SAVECHEN

Best social studies teacher I have ever had. He was so passionate about the subject and inspired me to be a better student. He was against using textbooks and instead showed us primary and secondary sources which I thought was brilliant. This is unfair punishment and it needs to end.

I once had a teacher so the same exact word in Chorus class last year. He was REALLY angry. And all the girls re doing were talking. Yeah, okay, that's a tad disrespectful. Cool. Congratulations. I know common sense. And yeah swearing isn't the band-aid to the world's problems. I got that too. Anyway, I'm a freshman now. It was a man in the same room as seventh and eighth grade girls. Yes, yes I know he was a replacement for the year. I got it people it's a tad different than a permanent teacher. But still. The only thing that happened to him was a different teacher each time had to come and sit and monitor. Being a Wellesley girl, I never had him a a teacher. I am really good friends with Camille and Jordan and I trust them. If they say he's great, he's great. Surely we all slip a slur out one time by mistake. I've done it. And I bet you (reader who is withstanded with the firing) have too. Most of this is vacuous and I am so proud you all for proving it! We're all voting for you and Mr. Chen! I wish I could be a part of it! You guys are so brave! With all of you guys helping and protesting, the say of the people who want him fired by now is absolutely inoperable! He's got a great crew! I am outraged that this has happened. I hope that justice will see that he just not be removed from Driscoll. He is the best thing that ever happened to that school! He gets students excited about school in a way that they never could. #savechen2k15

I am a student at UMass Boston, and my teacher is coming to support you guys today at the rally!! i am sending all my prayers and luck to you guys, it is powerful to see young students fighting for whats right! Don't let them tell you its wrong to challenge the system!

Sadly, Mr. Chen's suspension does not surprise me. There is a paternalism in the decision making process at Driscoll that seems to exclude any opinions outside the administration. Driscoll students suffer (repeatedly) as a result.
