Preserve Vital Agricultural Land at California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo

My husband and I have been involved with Cal Poly since 1956 (my husband graduating in 1960). After graduate school, my husband was a Professor in the EE Dept. for 36 years. Agriculture has ALWAYS been a VERY important part of Cal Poly and we want it to always remain a VERY important part of Cal Poly. Dr. Armstrong, please do not ruin Cal Poly by paving over valuable agriculture land with a parking garage and recreation fields. PLEASE preserve vital agricultural Land at Cal Poly.

Please save this land for the dairy. I would not be in the position at Kraft Heinz as a Quality Supervisor in a dairy plant if it weren't for my education as a Dairy Science major. Without this land, this department would not fall under the Learn by Doing motto Cal Poly represents. Please save the agricultural land. It is so vital to the education of not only dairy science majors, but the whole CAFES college.

Cal Poly continues to be a leader in education. We have a wonderful agriculture department as well as a fantastic architecture school, use those resources together to come up with a plan that does not inhibit the uses of the dairy. I'm confident that Cal Poly can come up with an innovative solution.

Hello, My name is Meredith Frisius. I am a Cal Poly alumni who studied in the Dairy Science Department. I am very proud to have graduated from the best dairy school in the nation and seek to preserve this opportunity for generations to come. I have been following the development of the master plan, and I am concerned with elements of the most recent revision. In the latest version of the master plan, there are two developments that have potentially heavy impact on the Dairy Science program. First, the fields on the east side of Mount Bishop Road, is where crops are grown for the Dairy. Aside from providing an excellent opportunity for hands on feed production management experience for students and a reduced cost feed for the dairy, these lands are also utilize as spray fields for waste water. Having a designated location to spread the waste waters form the dairy is vital to the continued survival of the dairy facility. Waste water disposal is one of the largest issues for the dairy as the waste is not able to be recycled in a water treatment facility. Without these fields or other fields designated for dairy waste water disposal, the Dairy Science program will be forced to terminate operations. The second issue that concerns me about the latest version of the master plan lays in the removal of dairy grazing lands. The area north/northwest of the commodity barn, depicted in pink, has been used for the grazing of dairy cattle. This pasture land represents a very significant sanctuary for the dairy cattle during various stages of their adolescent and adult lives. The land allows for the dairy cattle to return to a natural way of life grazing in the hills an eliminated the need for the University to invest in a dry lot facility to house the cattle during non-milking times. It is important for cattle welfare and for positive public perception that this grazing land remain unchanged. In summary, to maintain the integrity of the leading Dairy Science program in the

This wonderful program shouldn't be minimized into such a small area. Don't take away the best part of Cal Poly.

You can't learn by doing with out the land!!! Cal poly please get back to hands on learning and production agriculture!!!

Cal Poly is a land grant school. Agriculture is the main reason it was created. Please keep its main values alive.

Keep the land for Ag and Education! We are already fighting to keep land like this for open space...once it is gone it is gone forever!

Preserving CA Agriculture is imperative for the economy and food security of our state and nation. It is our responsibility to insure programs such as this survive and are passed on to our future generations.

the planned re-purposing of agricultural land for non-agricultural use is not compatible with on-going agricultural and educational needs and ought to be denied.

What's the point of having an Ag program if you're just going to abuse it and pull it down? Think of your students Poly, not the one's coming in 20 years.

Please preserve the land for agricultural use!

Please stop trying to take away our best Learn-By-Doing tools: our land.

As a graduate of the "Learn by doing" motto, this land is vital to keep on "doing". Save it from being built upon!

Cal Poly is a different kind of place and the open agricultural land is part of what makes it special.
