The school means so much to the kids it's very important to them

I've been following Amandla for years . The staff have been working hard to make a change in these students lives it's not right to abandon them now.

School closings are not a strategy to improve education. CPS should stop pretending that this is accountability.

In the past I have volunteered in the Library at Amandla. I was always impressed by the dedication of the faculty and staff and their commitment to the neighborhood. I am surprised by the action of CPS since Amandla has out performed other high schools in the neighborhood. I feel that closing Amandla now would be an injustice to the people of Englewood.

My son has been student since 5th grade. He is now a Senior. I believe Amandla, should have a chance to prosper their students

CPS needs to stop opening and closing schools. A true and lengthy analysis of this district is needed.

Closing a school that has a positive impact on its surrounding community and is a beacon to the students and children in that community is outrageous. Interrupting the students education in and of itself is a setback. Closing this school could have negative effects on their education for years to come. WRONG ANSWER CPS! I oppose charter school expansion in Chicago, but closing charters, especially innovative ones, on the basis of a flawed rating policy is wrong.

Schools represent large community investments of public dollars in human beings, not disposable franchises of for-profit corporations.

I don't support charter expansion, nor do I generally support charters, but to use such a flawed evaluation system to justify such a destructive action as closing a school is unconscionable.

One of the few charter schools in the city that ISN'T run by a politically connected group or a major campaign donor, and THAT is the only charter school in the city that is subjected to the same arcane and arbitrary rules that govern neighborhood schools? Gee, I wonder if that's a coincidence...?

Although I think that Chicago should be investing in quality neighborhood schools in every neighborhood (rather than charters), I disagree with the process for evaluating and closing schools. This is not just a business decision and it needs to be made by educators. We cannot continue to open and close schools based on flawed logic - the cost is too great.

The school closings process is flawed and needs to be reexamine do efore any more schools are shuttered. This is people's lives we're talking about, not pop-up businesses.

Save the schools!

Keep Amandla open.

I am a CTU member and do not support the privatization of our public schools. However, as a teacher at a school that was severely impacted by the 2013 school closings, I stand firmly opposed to all harmful, top-down, disruptive school closings. No school community should have to suffer through the pain of a school closing. In solidarity.

Seems like these kids need an oasis in an otherwise bad situation. What's the alternative?

The CPS school closing policies are flawed and schools, no matter if neighborhood or charter, must be evaluated by qualified educators not by administrators with no qualifications other than political ambitions and/or backgrounds in business. Education is NOT a business!

Enough chaos CPS.

Amandla Charter School is fulfilling a need, and closing the mechanism that can trap children in poverty. By providing a quality education and encouraging children to learn and expect MORE of themselves instead of less (which society expects), Amandla is providing future leaders and productive citizens. They deserve to stay open!
