Petition against the closing of the AVC Examiner

We, the students and faculty of the Antelope Valley College, and community members of the Antelope Valley, along with the support of persons across the state, petition against the closing of the Journalism 123 course from the Fall, 2012 semester, and with it the AVC Examiner.
We believe that it is reprehensible for a collegiate institution to remove itself from accountability, and ignore the responsibility to provide an independent press. We believe that the student body has a fundamental right to be informed on policies and practices that directly influence them; that determine the certainty of such inviolate rights as the pursuit of happiness.
We protest the methodology that ensured the fate of the Journalism program at AVC and appeal the decision, with the hope that the program resumes in its fully fledged form for the Spring, 2013 semester.
Thank you for your consideration.
