As Friends of the Maitland Art Center (MAC), we believe that National Historic Landmark Status should be pursued by the City of Maitland and the Association entrusted to operate MAC. This unique jewel was given to the people of Florida by court order in 1969 as a Charitable Public Trust. As such, the historic buildings and the legacy and artwork of Jules Andre Smith must be protected and preserved. National Historic Landmark status would provide much needed outside funding for this purpose.
