Save 35th AVE NE from Urban Blight - Updated

Parking for the churches is going to hugely impact the congregations and neighborhoods --- all for a few bicyclists. Irrational thinking!

Thank you for pursuing this and letting us know...the following are Questions asked of Mayor and individual City Council members with no response... “Road Diet” Reversal: Would you direct the SDOT Director to stop all current and future “road diet” and other traffic revision and re-engineering activities that reduce the number of lanes allowed for vehicular traffic on arterials in the City of Seattle and return the lane markings and signage and signaling of following streets to their previous pre-altered condition & traffic flow configurations: East and West bound NE 75th Street from 35th Ave NE to Roosevelt Way NE; Northwest bound Banner Way NE; North and South bound 23rd Ave E/23rd Ave/23rd Ave South from E John Street to Rainer Ave S; NE 125th East and West bound from Roosevelt Way NE to 35th Ave NE - and now 35th Ave NE ? also - Bicycle Licensing: Would you submit legislation to the Seattle City Council requesting the passage of legislation requiring the licensing of all bicycles used on/in the City’s public spaces ? - also Non-Motorized Cycle Traffic Minimums: Would you prohibit the City’s Director of Transportation from reducing the number of lanes on any arterial street or road in the City of Seattle for the purpose of dedicated non-motorized-cycle traffic lanes unless at least 25% of the average monthly traffic is non-motorized cycle traffic? - Finally Citing Bicycle Parking Violations: Would you submit legislation to the Seattle City Council to include in section 11.72.360 of the Seattle Municipal Code and request the SPD Police Chief to initiate through SPD Parking Enforcement non-warning citations of bicycles blocking sidewalks and/or blocking any part of or all of a sidewalk disability ramp and cease referring citizens to SDOT or SPU to file an Illegal Dumping Complaint? Other...would prefer words like "Make...Great Again" not be included in the petition.

you already have parallel bike lanes on 39th NE. I would prefer my tax dollars go to the homeless

I like here and this will be devastating. When Sand Point Way closed down for a few months a couple years ago 35th was a nightmare

Bike lanes resulting in one car lane each way without space for a center turn lane will cause extreme congestion, and traffic diversion to side streets. (And NE 75th after getting similar bike lanes often has many-blocks'-long lines of very-slow-moving cars even though it has center turn lanes! ) The elimination of parking will hurt businesses, churches, and the Seattle Public Library on 35th, and increase parking congestion on nearby residential streets.

Totally support this petition. Bicyclists are making our streets unsafe for pedestrians and cars. So many riders without helmets. How about enforcing these laws and citing their sometimes dangerous riding. Keep our neighborhoods safe !!

For safety’s sake —Bike riders are safer on the 39th NE Greenway.

This petition makes absolutely no sense to me. For every arterial like 35th, we have at least 4-5 parallel, safer streets running in between them that are hardly being utilized. Seems like these would provide a safer alternative to 35th for cyclists. A lot of drivers now are taking to driving down these very side streets that bikes can use, because of the congestion and confusion caused by all the “craziness” that is becoming 35thNE. This will also create more dangers for visibility of pedestrians especially with winter rains, and poor visibility at rush hour. Look at NE 75 st... at the results of bike lane revision a few yrs ago. I can stand in front of Eckstein school looking west at “rush hour”, and all I see is a traffic jam of idling, polluting cars in both directions. Traffic used to move nicely before. I have seen more tumbleweeds rolling down 75th than I have bicycles. Do these lawmakers ever get out from behind their desks and talk to the real people of Seattle?Whoever they are serving, besides themselves, it’s certainly not the taxpayers of Seattle. It doesn’t make sense to jam public transportation, private cars, and bicycles together on one already busy street.
