On October 13, the village passed an ordinance that states if you own a pit bull or a Rottweiler, you must get rid of it by December 1 or they will take it for "disposition."
This is what has occurred so far regarding this ordinance.
News Channel 5 reached out to village to hear its side of the story.
Alderman Penn Lemoine said the ordinance was created to appease several residents.
"We had several residents that were complaining about not being able to walk along the neighborhoods because these dogs were basically running along town," Lemoine said in a phone interview.
We asked Lemoine about dog attacks...
"There have been, but I don't think they're documented," he said.
And, if they plan to kill the dogs they collect on December 1...
"I'd rather not elaborate on that," he said.
"Is that what it is? Are you going to kill the dogs?" asked reporter, Brooke Buford.
"If that's what the ordinance says, then that's what it says," Lemoine responded.
Lemoine told us he owns a German Shepard. But, he only considers pit bulls and Rottweilers as "vicious."
He also says what the town is doing is completely legal.
If you had a pit bull or a rottweiller as your family dog would you want your dog killed by your town?

This is a disgusting, despicable law that has been created. There's no way this can be legal, to seize property without reason. That's what it comes down to legally. In the hearts of the families of this poor town it comes down to the government taking a way and killing a family member. Turn this law around!!
Dear comissioners, It is time to move on from the stigma that a Pitbull is an agressive breed. There are mor bite by smaller breeds as a mean of defensive posture because their size. Lets move on, stop this lie and incarcerate the humans that are teaching alot of the animals through abuse to become this way. Provide this family the piece of mind they deserve by keeping the dog Zeus
all dogs a so friendly is the owner or the evil people who r responsable for the away this dogs act.i used to have a pit he was the most wonderful dog he luv us so much so careing but he was old .hope n pray so oneday this dogs where live there life so happy.

Please reverse this decision to ban pitbulls and rottys, I have two pits and they are the sweetest dogs I have ever owned. Great breed with a bad reputation.
Breed legislation is a waste of resources not everyone's Pitbull or rottie are vicious. They are part of the family, would you want someone to take away one of your children?!
This is a new low level of intolerance and cruelty. I hope the city is fined for their incompetence.

Get with the times Moreauville. You need to start blaming bad owners instead of a whole breed of dog. I am a doberman owner so am fully aware of how prejudice people can be. Good owners make good dogs. Don't ban a whole breed because of a few bad owners. Make the bad owners take responsibility for a change. For those people who work hard at showing how nice pits and rotts are, 1 bad owner can wreck it all. I know many nice sweet pits and rotts. Your ordinance sucks and you should be finding a better way to deal with this rather than murdering innocent dogs.
