homogeny has no place in the dorms. keep the unique aspect of Zahm's living arrangments to continue. no harm is being done as it currently stands. make this change and irreparable harm will be made to Zahm.

I appreciate that this may be an accounting measure, fitting more bodies into more rooms, but one of the most important aspects of my time at ND, and in Zahm specifically,was the COMMUNITY of the place and the people. A heck of a lot of this community experience was formed in those Community Rooms. Please let the Zahm guys keep their community rooms.

As a freshman, the common rooms have served a crucial role to my quick adjustment to life away from home. I quickly found myself calling Zahm "home" because the sense of community within the House and section was so strong. The common rooms are where this spirit begins and dies. If the ultimate goal of the Notre Dame Residence Life Experience is to foster close, lifelong friendships, why eliminate the very foundation of that process? By converting the common rooms into lounges, the traffic and therefore the number of friendships built through them will dwindle. Currently our basement, a "lounge" vs a group of people's room, is usually barren except for a couple people doing homework. That's no way to build community. Zahm has a proven track record of building a strong identity and bond, to move to destroy that is to admit that Notre Dame is seeking to provide a more sterile, impersonal, state-school residence life experience.

The common rooms are a key part of Zahm House. They are a major contributor to why we are such a close knit brotherhood. To get rid of them would significantly harm Zahm's brotherhood, and serve only to break the community apart. It would be an atrocity. Please do not do that to my home.

While I had many great experiences as a student at ND, the most meaningful occurred in the common rooms of Zahm Hall. These rooms fostered a sense of pride and community in each section of the dorm. Lifelong friendships were formed there as well. Please do not destroy this great tradition.

Community is everything! Zahm House common rooms are where that happens. The Office of Housing needs to remember the University's mission and their purpose on campus, which is to cultivate that community.

"Zahm has always been outstanding among the many halls at Notre Dame. Zahm always had, like the Germans call it, zeitgeist. They have a spirit, a kind of feeling and character, a kind of daring... I'm very lucky to be adopted as a part of the family by Zahm." - Fr. Theodore Hesburgh As Fr. Hesburgh himself said, Zahm is a place that even at Notre Dame, is known for its outstanding community and sense of family and brotherhood. That feeling starts the first day that freshmen step into Zahm, as they are welcomed into the dorm. When I talk to friends in other dorms, Zahm has a unique situation in that a large portion of seniors still choose to live in the dorm, whereas in other dorms most seniors end up off campus. The sense of brotherhood that binds Zahm together stems from the community built around the common rooms, and without them, the sense of family in Zahm, something that the University states is a goal for its student life, will be greatly diminished.

Being a member of the 2A 8man this year has been incredible. I can't imagine there would be this incredible level or friendship between the different ages in our section without the common room. We have built a friendly community in which all are welcome and all feel welcomed. Many friends from other sections regularly enjoy spending time in our common room. It would truly be detrimental to Notre Dame's vision of strong dorm community to remove the 8mans and 5mans.

Zahm means everything to me. The community that the common rooms built has been one of my favorite things about college. The common rooms are where I have felt comfortable and included, and where I have made my best friends.
