I dealt with property and land rights issues for approximately 40 years in my State government job. This proposal for an oversight Commission will hand strap the future and overburdens landowners that contribute significantly to the vitality and progress of the Village. I'm familiar with the way things like this actually work and the hidden purposes and meanings that distract from good will of the landowners.

I love the eclectic feel of the village as it is. We do not need this kind of over-reach. This is also unfair to those who already live there and may be priced out because they cannot afford to maintain their home. I am also concerned this type of restrictive measure may spill over to those who live outside of the village and not in HOA designated areas. This is a slippery slope.

We own three (3) Village properties with over $1 million invested. We did so thinking we were free to choose how we remodeled and painted our homes. We are good stewards of quality and taste and do not need people with no “skin in the game” telling us how to own and operate our privately purchased properties.
Have the courage and do the work you signed up for by ensuring the existing zoning laws are actually enforced without constantly allowed variances.
Please do not add another layer of governance due to the lack of effort and courage to do the right thing to make or change the existing governance oversight of privately purchased homes work as it should.

I'm in favor of not demolishing historically significant homes, but there should be other means. I don't believe it's fair or appropriate to have a commission decide what all homeowners can build, remodel or add to their homes.

I'm surprised and saddened to see that this commission and historic ordinance has such far reaching and restrictive results. My biggest concern here is that once the conservation district is formed, then it automatically converts into the more restrictive historic district in two years - unless a majority of the property owners fight it. That would make this whole deal far worse. How are we going to get over 500 houses to sign a petition that most do not care about? Please do not do this to your neighbors!

I absolutely and unequivocally DO NOT want this. I have lived here very happily for 24 years!!! The village is beautiful and we all care for and care about our properties, the history, and neighbors. We do not need to be TOLD to do so!! The village is a unique and wonderful place. This would serve to undermine not help.
