Wood Canyon is a great community. Please do not close this great school. We are like a family here. One of the reasons why my daughter loves going to school because she loves the school. Have CRA look for their own location.

As a parent that loves my son's school, I can completley understand and respect that the thought of your child's school being closed is scary and produces a lot of emotion. I do not however believe that vilifying charter schools in general and CRA in particular will help your position, or lend any credibility to it. Charter schools have absolutely nothing to do with affluence. Charter schools are public schools that are privately run. CRA is open to any child that lives in OC---all kids that want to attend go through the lottery and selection is non-biased and by chance---not dictated by a family's income or position. CRA has a right to exist and since opening it's doors has been working diligently with the district to find a permanent building---Wood Canyon has been gracious and wonderful these past couple of years, opening it's campus and classrooms to our school and for that we are eternally grateful. Your anger and disappointment should be left at the district's door, not CRA's as we have nothing to do with the final decision. The decision is up to the district and is the direct result of waning enrollment and Wood Canyon---if the numbers aren't there, than the campus is a drain to the district and unfortunately that's the fact. If it wasn't CRA, it would be another charter school seeking a permanent home. My suggestion is to get informed, stick to the facts and take your legitimate anger and disappoitment straight to the district.

This is a public charter school... The children/families attending CRA do not pay money to attend, only apply by completing an application and getting it put into a random lottery. The economic class of a family has no weight of their attendance or admission.

Wood Canyon is a good school. The teacher there is the best and they really love their job and most of all they love and care for our kids. Please do not close the school.

I knew this would happen. This is wrong. Charter schools create a wedge in the community, with more wealthy kids going to the charter school and families that are less advantaged stick with charters. So neighborhoods become less of a community and they have not even proven to do better than public schools. It is wrong for them to try and take over. Let them find their own space.

When we were deciding where to raise our kids we decided on Aliso Viejo. When we were deciding where in Aliso Viejo we wanted to live we considered which school we would like our children to attend. We decided on Wood Canyon and then found our home within the school's boundaries. We since decided to move and would only considered moving within the school's boundaries to keep our children at Wood Canyon.
As parents we try to make the best decisions for our kids as possible. Being told Wood Canyon was safe from closing we chose Wood Canyon with a plan to keep our kids there throughout their entire elementary school years. We may want to move our home across boundary lines but not before our kids are through elementary school to give them that stable school environment where they are building lifetime friendships. Please consider the research that the shows the negative effects of changing elementary schools has on children.
The other schools are already at or about capacity. Overcrowding them will also cause chaos with their current students, families, and school staff. The decision to close Wood Canyon will affect the entire elementary school population of Aliso Viejo.
We chose Wood Canyon. We continue to choose Wood Canyon. Please choose to find an alternative for the charter school and allow this Aliso Viejo staple school to thrive!

We moved to the area a year ago and bought a house near Wood Canyon. We pay taxes. We were told that our first grader might have to go to school to different town because the rest of schools are at the capacity. I'm a cancer survivor who just found a new job. Changing school arrangements will make a conflict in my ability to work. I'm not even mentioning my daughter who made friends and after a year finally got comfortable with school. We were told that enrollment dropped but also that enrollment was stopped months ago. So how could it possible go up if you close enrollment? And what are you comparing those numbers to? The year when other school next to us was closed and all those students were moved to Wood Canyon. Please compare the enrollment numbers to the years before some charter schools came alone. Move charter school to a different town and see how many children will come back to Wood Canyon and what will the enrollment numbers actually be.

The enrollment, the school ratings are not a representation of this schools caliber. They are a reflection of the District accommodating the charter! This school teaches that character matters. Aliso Viejo is to small of a community for 2 Charter schools. I'm all for school of choice but why so many in such a small community. CRA is willing to relocate, let them!

My kids love it here and have pride in thier school. My youngest is starting next year. Wood Canyon has great teachers and staff and a wonderful principal. I really hope they don't close it. It doesn't seem very fair.

Wood Canyon Elementary School's enrollment has been negatively impacted by sharing it's campus with Community Roots Academy. As a direct result of sharing a campus, our enrollment has suffered. Keeping Wood Canyon open without a shared campus with Community Roots Academy will allow more space for Wood Canyon to grow and thrive and continue to be an excellent option for the residents of Aliso Viejo.
