Our safety and the public’s safety depend on this tower staying open

I think it would be a big disaster if you close the Windsor tower. We are a border city and there’s lots of traffic coming through this airport. The next closest control centre would be London and that’s just too far away from the border. There are many trainers that go through this airport that go on to be commercial pilots, they need this practice they need this tower.

As a commercial pilot operating out of YQG I believe that closing this tower would cause a significant increase in risk to the aviation community that shares this airport. Windsor hosts a wide variety of aircraft from light trainers to heavy airlines. Keeping this traffic properly separated is paramount to safe operations. Without the skilled controllers to perform this duty the risk of the loss of separation between aircraft and runway incursions increases significantly. Pilots are well trained and skilled but the high demands that the flying environment can place on them can lead to errors. Removing the controllers takes away the safety net that helps to identify and correct these errors. I would ask that NavCanada take into consideration all of the factors, not simply the number of aircraft movements but the large range in types of aircraft, the mix of IFR/VFR traffic and that this all occurs around the very busy Detroit airspace. I believe the only decision should be to not decrease service and safety at YQG and keep the tower operational.
