Save Westwood Park's Apple Trees

Leave the trees alone. They've been enjoyed for years. We need more trees and they are a delight to see.

Please use common sense here! We cannot eliminate risk from our world!!! Why cut down healthy productive trees? Just take care!

I am a Westwood resident. This plan is hair brained. Stop it immediately please.

Honeybees, mason bees, and bumblebees are the main pollinators of apples. Apples are also eaten by mammals like badgers, deer, foxes, hedgehogs, wood mice and voles. Wood mice and voles are eaten by foxes, weasels, owls and domestic cats. Wood mice are important prey for tawny owls; when numbers of woodland rodents are low, owls may fail to breed. Wood mice eat seeds, green plants, fruits. Apples are a source of late-season sugar for butterflies, wasps, ants and other invertebrates. As they age, apple trees provide crevices and gnarly twigs ideal for nesting sites, insect homes and wildlife-attracting lichens. They can support mistletoe (Viscum album) Mistletoe supports its own Mistletoe Marble Moth (Celypha woodiana), and Kiss Me Slow Weevil (Ixapion variegatum) and feeds the Mistle Thrush The trees help combat climate change and chopping them down means less CO2 is absorbed, habitat for wildlife is destroyed and a source of pleasure for adults and children.

Would be ridiculous to cut these trees down because of fallen apples! Sure the villagers would be happy to clear away the apples

Stop chopping down trees! We can through a few apples in the hedge for the few wild animals we have left. If you want to chop things, Westwood Manor Farm hedge needs a trim, so we can walk on the footpath and not the road.

The trees should be saved this idea from the council is totally unjustified

People all over the UK are planting trees to save the planet. Please tell me how Bourne parish counsel justify such wanton destruction.

Shouldn't apples next to a play area be thought of as a free and benefit to the children? Fallen leaves are more of a danger than apples, so presumably they are planning to protect the public and rid themselves of all that tiresome maintenance by chopping down every tree within their area of responsibility? The council members are publicising Westwood to the rest of the world by making it look like a place run by idiots.

Outright vandalism. We need trees more than ever now to absorb carbon from the atmosphere.

Trees have a right to be here. These are healthy 30 year old mature trees which deserve to thrive. The amount of carbon they take out from the atmosphere is a miracle and we need MORE not LESS. Do the right thing.

Put fences around if they're so dangerous. How many people have died from the scareyapples?

As a resident and frequent visitor to the park, I have never once been inconvenienced by apples! They are my favourite trees.
