Citizens of Shorewood and Tonka Bay, MN are collecting signatures in support of saving this precious forest & it's habitat from demolition and extinction.

As part of a road improvement project (overturned in 2007), they are again proposing the destruction of this beloved 2-1/2 acre woods & replace with a storm water run-off catch basin. This will force the run-off of stormwater to this soon-to-be polluted catch basin, removing of approximately 200-400 mature forest trees, that currently do an excellent job of filtering and cleaning rainwater.

This will be disastrous for the nearby walking/biking trail, home owners, and the Tonka Bay Manitou Park & fields, possibly causing even more flooding.

There are no guarantees from the city that this will solve their run-off issues.

Please join with us to save this parcel of land, known in Hennepin County as PID#33-117-23-21-0042. WEBSITE FOR MORE INFORMATION; https://preservethewoods.weebly.com/

I honestly never imagined we would see 250 names on this list. This momentum belongs entirely to the people who care about our trees as much as I do.

I checked the page this morning and saw we hit one hundred signatures which is a total I never imagined possible when I started this. This is happening because you cared enough to click and help protect our trees. Truly, I am just the person who typed this up but you are the ones putting the wind in these sails.

I am honestly overwhelmed by how many of you have stepped up to defend the Wedgewood Forest. If we can reach one hundred signatures today, it would send a powerful message that this community truly cares about our old trees.

I have grown up on these trails and in these woods. It is considered a home for not only the animals that live in the forest, but also me and the other kids that have grown up here. I’m nearly 20...the nature that surrounds my home has shaped my childhood and my perspective. Please don’t take this away from future generations.

I'm in favor of identifying a hybrid (less invasive, more environmentally friendly) approach that preserves the natural setting and takes steps to use the area to improve storm water management for local residents.

I've seen several endangered species in this forest including: Northern long- eared bats. It would be a true shame for this forest to be destroyed and replaced with a stagnant holding pond to breed mosquitos.

This land is directly across the street from my property. I am concerned with safety aspects for my children and others, as well as potential flooding and property damage to my property. Residents have resisted attempts at this for years. There has to be a better way.

This plan was over tuned in 2007 due to residents in both Shorewood and Tonka Bay. The entire project plan needs to be re-reviewed and restructured properly. Once the damage is done, it can't be undone. Over 200 mature trees are slated for destruction.

Please don’t take from this precious beautiful healthy forest! This is a beloved area and hate the thought of healthy trees being removed and animals habitat eliminated! I adore this area and hike the trail daily!

This trail is used daily by so many people. It is beautiful and should not be damaged in any way
