Save Wallingford Playfield- NO TURF!

We rely on access to this park for our toddler son to have safe outside time exploring within walking distance. Having a space like this nearby is critical for coordination, strength building, etc during critical development years.

Please do not destroy Wallingford park!

Please keep Wallingford Park as it is!!

Let's preserve Wallingford park- It is really one of the one spots where neighbors who do not otherwise interact with each other can share space and relax together. Kids, toddlers, adults- all our neighbors can use it now! Please do not displace that.

This is a neighborhood park. Don’t help destroy our neighborhood.

Leave natural areas as-is. There's already enough stuff being torn down all over the city to build unaffordable, overpriced, cheaply made condos for nomadic rich people who don't care about the city.

We should not be destroying natural spaces with permeable ground for artificial, plastic grass. Keep the park!!

I love Wallingford park! We need more greenspaces - not less! Families need a place to get away from the TV for a while. Once we lose a greenspace, we never get it replaced. I am afraid of a future for Seattle where you have to travel one or two or three miles in order to find a park, and then you find an overcrowded park. My best friend also just tore his ACL on artificial turf.

I am signing this petition to urge you NOT to put in an artificial turf athletic field at Wallingford Park Playfield. As a resident that lives a block away from Wallingford playfield and uses it daily, I see the huge positive community impact it has for both myself and others. It is not just a patch of grass, it is a lively community hub that encourages neighborly connections, frisbee, day-care and summer youth programs, dancing, tai-chi and other martial arts practice, picnics and much more. As a city and community with strong environmental values and ties, the mature trees that line the park are essential for local wildlife, ecosystem, and public enjoyment. As our wonderful neighborhood continues to grow in urban density, we are in more need of our public greenspace now more than ever. You must find somewhere else to build your athletic field, it cannot be at the cost of the community whose tax dollars directly support your school.

The current park at Wallingford serves the community well. It is a multi purpose park which is peaceful and quiet. I am not in favor of a big astroturf field and crowding out the neighborhood parking spaces.

This should remain a greenspace for residents, there are alternatives for a playfield

Wallingford needs to keep its big "bac yard" for family fun and play and for seniors to stretch their legs.

Don’t ruin this gem of a park…and set, doesn’t SPS have more pressing things to fund? Like not closing schools?

Wallingford's density is increasing rapidly, with many new apartment buildings on Stone Way and townhouses. To take away park space, which is used by all the community for casual recreation and enjoyment, and turn it into an artificial gated field, is counter to everything the parks board and city supposedly stands for. There are other options to seriously consider if the school board feels a football field is necessary, including underused space at Lower Woodland or putting a lid on the football field-sized parking lot at Lincoln. Or repurpose Lincoln's parking lot as a ground-level football field and find creative answers for teacher/staff parking; why should such a huge space in the heart of an urban village be devoted solely to parking, anyway?

Absolutely I want to help - unable to donate at this time but soon will attempt - thank you for your work - I've fond memories of the park and it's well utilized.

There are better options for a Lincoln practice field that would have far fewer negative community impacts than would converting Wallingford playfield.

I strongly oppose loosing our community park that is highly utilized to become a football field

My son loves this playground and has made many friends through play here. Why do kids need more stadiums and fields? They need playgrounds! No plastic fields for seattle. It's also worse for athletes

I can't believe that SPS is closing schools with kne hand and building new fields with the other.
