Save Wallingford Playfield- NO TURF!

I walk through or around Wallingford Playfield frequently. I never find the park empty. In the summer there are kids there in all daylight hours, playing catch with dad or running around with other kids or playing in the playground. But the rest of the year I always find people there. Parents with young kids using it while older kids are in school. Older kids when school is out. If you allow SPS to take this playfield away there is NO WHERE in Wallingford for those kids to play. If they cannot have some green space to run and play freely, unstructured, then what do they do? That fun, active creative time is channeled to ... playing more video games? We need free play, we need interactive spaces we need Wallingford Playfield. Other neighborhoods have far more; it would be lovely to have a park as large as Volunteer Park for example. But this little patch of green works very hard for our neighborhood, is valued and is well used. Please preserve Wallingford Playfield for the entire community.

This should remain a public space. It is used daily by the community and is an integral part of some people’s daily routines and exercise. Many of us find peace here. Please keep this space public!

Keep the Wallingford Park public! We need safe, clean, community spaces now more than ever!

The city wants to transform a local treed meadow into a football field? We have voted to support parks, and fund them. Now we just need leaders who use the funding to celebrate parks, not slice and dice them and force a litigated solution.

Replacing remaining urban green space with microplastics is a sure-fire way to erode Seattle’s climate resilience.

Lincoln High and other schools have access to lower woodland fields. They just need priority for use. The neighborhood and community utilize Wallingford park for multi-use multiple age groups including day care age children for no cost. Save the Park.

I am thoroughly disgusted that SPS would try to roll this out without community input, planning to spend money on this while also thinking of actually closing schools due to a budget deficit! Revolting. This is yet another example of lack of accountability in our institutions. The community needs and relies on this green space as it is, and an artificial turf field would completely change the use, character, and community feel of this space. I am especially disturbed by the plan to remove mature trees and install ultra-bright, inescapable sports lighting in the heart of this residential neighborhood, as well as the possibility of altering/removing the playground (which was just renovated by Parks a few years ago! and wading pool.) Your tax dollars [NOT] at work. I have school-aged children too, and we are all stakeholders in this critical green space, not just soccer and football athletes.

Save the park!!

I am new to the area, I just moved from California about 5 months ago. Part of the reason I moved was to be closer to green spaces and enjoy more of the natural beauty of the Pacific Northwest. I actually walk around the public use Park everyday to get exercise and have enjoyed it immensely. It would be a tragedy if that were replaced with a field.

We need more REAL green space in Seattle, not less!

Don’t do this. Why reduce the amount of natural green space and the access to special groups only? As a long time local resident, I strongly object to this change of use, especially with upcoming increasing the size of our community and the need for green spaces, for kids, adults and pets alike.

I believe this plan would ruin the lovely ambiance for a several block radius around the playfield. Please don't do this to our neighborhood.

I walk to this park daily with my dog, and you can see local community being built amongst dog lovers, children’s soccer leagues, baseball families, and more. Save our park!

SPS’s plan is short sighted. We need more open park space not less.

I’m a longtime Wallingford resident. We need to keep this natural green space for the people, animals, trees, birds, insects who use it. NO to artificial turf, destroying trees, and losing this precious community space!
