Save Wallingford Playfield- NO TURF!

Wallingford resident who believes this park serves community best by not replacing grass with plastic and not succumbing to special interests, even though in this case the interest is of students. Nothing against the need for a playfield, but the Aurora & 50th location is a more logical solution with less community impact - and I still believe plastic turf should not be the only option.

Not a great idea for our community park. The school system needs to find solutions for school sports using school district resources-NOT neighborhood green spaces, which are too few and far between. Plastic turf is t fit for anything other than sports. Our park is kid dog and people friendly. It is used and much needed as it is!!!

I respectfully state my opposition as a long term Wallingford resident to the SPS athletic field & turf plan at Wallingford Playfield.

Please save Wallingford Park as it is. I've lived and worked in Wallingford for over 40 years. It's bad enough that density new construction without parking is ruining our once lovely family neighborhood. Please don't erode our community and take away nature anymore. Please allow the playground to continue for all of us to use and enjoy!

My young children enjoy this park. They dont like or want to play organized sports but like to run and catch a frisbee in the grass and play in the trees/bushes in the edge. We take the bus to the park from our floating home which does not have a yard. My kids want natural materials, not turf. Protect this opportunity to connect with the natural world v participate in adult-directed activities for children.

Using Wallingford Park is a terrible idea, and there are several superior alternatives that must be seriously considered.

Please keep the park Natural and place for all to use!

ENFORCE leash laws to make the field appropriate to play sports on, keep the tree canopy, and absolutely NO to cancer causing/environmentally damaging PLASTIC turf! If you keep the trees, the planned field lighting won’t be too impactful to the surrounding area thanks to the tree cover.

Please keep our neighborhood green spaces. This park is really important to the community. QA bowl would be a great option

This is preposterous!!! This lovely neighborhood park is meant for us all! We play tennis here. Walk out dogs and lay random neighborhood soccer games! Who the heck is the football field for?? Certainly NOT for the good of the community out! Stop this nonsense!

Turf runoff leaches harmful chemicals into our waterways, such as 6PPD, a chemical in car tires that has been linked to salmon mortality. PFAS and other "forever chemicals" commonly used in artificial turf also have deleterious effects on terrestrial and aquatic wildlife and are potentially hazardous to the children that will be using the field. Establishing a turf field at Wallingford would be an unsound decision, both environmentally and from a child-safety perspective, and I encourage you to explore other options.

We moved to 42nd Street in Wallingford in 1995 in large part because of the proximity to Wallingford Park. I worked on the renovation of the park in 1997-1998. It is in irreplaceable community resource. Converting to an astro-turf football field would benefit only high school BOYS and deprive everyone else of a lovely public open space. Please do not do this.

Protect the environment, protect the community and protect Seattle's green spaces - reject the SPS Turf Plan!

My family has enjoyed this park for 30 years and I walk into or by it everyday. Please keep the park a natural place!
