Save Wallingford Playfield- NO TURF!

Please preserve the park as-is. The playground and wading pool are invaluable, walkable recreation for kids in this neighborhood.

Artificial turf is the worst possible outcome for a beautiful green space with established trees used by the public. Artificial turf is bad for the environment and public health!

Children need places to play!

Not in favor of turning the park into a turf football field.

Please preserve this wonderful, multi-use park that is a treasure to the community with its mature trees and natural setting. Improving the turf so that it can be used for practices would be OK, but healthier to improve the grass than to add AstroTurf. Thank you!

No thank you to a rigid dedicated athletic field that reduces the currently broadly flexible use cases supported by the park.

My daughter loves playing at this park. The Wallingford community already doesn't have enough gathering places or green spaces. I support high school athletics, but another option needs to be chosen rather than diminishing a beloved community resource. What about the original plan to create a field on top of the high school parking lot?

I'm heavily against turning Wallingford Playfield into a school football field. It's robbing the community of valuable green space for the benefit of a few.

Please don't take away a beloved neighborhood park, one that families and kids of all ages enjoy, so that high school jocks can get more concussions and knee injuries.

It's a shame if our public park becomes a fenced off public turf.

As a resident this is inappropriate use of a space that is most welcome in an area where density has increased a lot in the last few years and continues to do so as more apartment buildings and townhouse are being built or a planned where there was a single family dwelling or commercial building. What has made Seattle living so special is how walkable it is and the easy access to green spaces. I also object to artificial turf. There have been studies recently that are finding that as the materials age and breakdown toxics are released and the cancer rate among kids who play on them is going up. Artificial turf, to date is not fully biodegradable. Also the fact that the public would be squeezed out is bad form and short sighted. The school does not need a football team or field. I am guessing they want one to increase revenues. They should focus on other sports instead of develop a great jazz band! The field has higher and better uses for everyone rather than for a few.

I also believe MS and HS kiddos deserve well-maintained playfields. Alternative locations to Wallingford playfield could include: - Queen Anne bowl - is in the middle of the Lincoln geo zone and is already turf! - Big Howe - Upper Woodland Park (gravel lot at 50th and Whitman near Aurora) - existing parking lot turned to a field or an elevated field

Keep the park!

There are not enough community parks open green spaces and parks in neighborhoods for everyone to enjoy. The park should not be turned into a sports field for a select few. Gas Works park is being used as a concert venue on the week end and taken away from public use. We don’t need to take another park away that families and the community use.
