The Sisters of the Visitation have reversed their decision and the school stays open. Our relentless pressure forced them to acknowledge that they cannot simply discard a legacy that has stood for over a century. We won this fight for the students, but stay sharp because we are watching to …

ON FEBRUARY 6TH, 2024, THE BAY RIDGE COMMUNITY LEARNED THAT THE SISTERS OF THE VISITATION WERE ENDING THEIR MINISTRY AT THE BROOKLYN MONASTERY, RESULTING IN THE CLOSURE OF THE ALL-GIRLS CATHOLIC SCHOOL THAT HAS BEEN EDUCATING BROOKLYN WOMEN SINCE 1863: VISITATION ACADEMY.

THE COMMUNITY DESERVES ANSWERS.

PARENTS DESERVE ANSWERS.

OUR DISPLACED YOUNG WOMEN DESERVE THE TRUTH.

We just hit one hundred signatures while the Sisters of the Visitation remain silent about this betrayal. The administration thinks they can just walk away from our girls and leave us in the dark but this shows they are dead wrong.

We hit 250 signatures and the leadership at the monastery still refuses to look us in the eye. They think we will just go away quietly but this proves they are dead wrong.

The Sisters of the Visitation are shutting down a legacy and refusing to give us the truth. We are almost at one hundred signatures so push this link to everyone you know right now. Do not let them ghost this community while they dismantle our school in secret.

The preservation of the Visitation Monastery, Church, & Academy complex are important to the entire Bay Ridge community -- not just the students who are directly affected. What are our public representatives doing to help save the Visitation Academy? Why do we hear only silence?

I am concerned about the irregularities in the process culminating rather suddenly in the decision to close this school. I know from people I keep in touch with from my all-girls Brooklyn schooling 60 years ago that this was an excellent school and answers are in short supply.

Visitation empowered me as a young girl to dream big and to use my voice for good. I wouldn’t be where I am today without the academy. We must fight to preserve this special school and the monastery so that they can continue educating bold, intelligent, VOCAL, empowered women for decades to come

A shame and a disgrace for a true landmark such as Visitation to be stolen from the young girls of Bay Ridge community by Sisters who have abandoned their mission and vocation.

I am a Roman Catholic living for decades in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn. My children attended both Catholic elementary and high schools in Brooklyn. Keep Visitation Academy in Bay Ridge. Our girls need it.

I went to visitation many many years ago. I’m 66 right now. My nieces went there. It is a wonderful, beautiful school, and it should stay around from many many years to teach other children what we all have learned in the past.

The monastery is an important part of the Catholic experience but it is also a part of our history.
