I look at uni info on a regular basis but it doesn't 'clog up my inbox' as it all goes into a separate folder which I can look at when I have the time. I don't think I would bother to acces it via 'staffcentral'. It would be a great loss to move it to staffcetnrl which is not the core of my work; email in Outlook is where I conduct 90% of my work.

Website require people to be proactive, but there is a need for a communication channel where people don't need to be proactive. It is only very very rarely abused, and only occasionally annoying.

It's important to be able to receive news as opposed to having to seek it out. People can filter out these emails if they wish.

Losing the uni info channel would be a blow to the open communications we have at Brighton. In this time of unrest and industrial action, having this channel is more important than ever. Removing it sends a very negative message to all staff.

Uni info is an essential element of life, giving instant information to the whole community whether part time or full time. For me its the essential safety information such as weather reports, accidents and so forth that I rely on. You can always delete what isn't applicable - please dont delete Uni Info!

For all its faults and irritations, 'uni-info' is one of the features of the University which makes me so happy to have taken the plunge, so to speak, and move to Brighton (from Sussex) and its wonderful community last September. Like all democratic processes, freedom of information has a price: it appears less effective, more time-consuming. Think about the alternative, however. Surely we don't want it! I cannot help but joining the plea to keep 'uni-info' just as it is. Perhaps those who do not like it could get a technician help them set up a system through which info emails are set aside for them to read or ignore. Imposing such a system to everyone defeats the purpose, however, of being able to communicate with everyone instantly.

One of my concerns is that the new alerts - for example home games at Falmer (that can cause considerable) disruption - may go ‘undetected’ by some. Signing up for an alert is a fine idea, but I suspect there will be many individuals (probably students/visitors) who won’t sign up and consequently the message will be lost to some. I also think that, as a very split campus, it does 'join-up the dots' so to speak. However, there is no doubt that it needs to be regulated.
