keep uni-info - the dialogue Mark's email initiated is so much about the essence of the university community, much more so than signing petitions. Come on, rethink this one!

We deal in information, knowledge, and so on. We also deal in communication, and uni info is a simple and effective way in communicating. It also maintains as a community.

We need to keep Uni Info as a means of enabling all members of the University community to communicate with one another.

Through uni info I have: (a) learned about and participated in staff development opportunities, which have enriched both my working and personal life, (b) participated in valuable research, including spending time in an MRI scanner while someone looked at my brain activity – yes, there was some! (c) disseminated information about courses and seminars, etc. which people probably wouldn’t have sought out, (d) enjoyed film screenings and theatre events, (e) seen useful information about major traffic and transport delays that would have negatively impacted on my journey to/from work. The thing is, people may not actively seek information or have the time to ‘browse’ or ‘go and look for’ things that may interest them. I didn’t anticipate and therefore seek out information about the opportunities listed above – they found me via uni info and I’m happy that they did!

I've found it really useful in disseminating information about events; it is an important channel for quick and wider communication across the whole institution.

I would like to see Uniinfo remain as an email however the use should be for useful broadcast message for the community (i..e. spare paperclips/ chairs/ tables etc) should be directed towards the staff central function

Uni info is an important communication tool that I anyone can use and is not controlled by one department. Keep uni info!

I agree with the person who suggested an opt-out system instead of opt-in.

However well-meant, even replacing with a staffcentral-based service just won't provide the same level of community engagement - let's not lose something important about working at UoB

Uni Info very useful for discussion and information sharing. The new proposal won't be the same - Rather help people set up a separate folder to divert Uni Info emails into (easy - I've done that). Then they can check when they wish.
