As an archer from UC Merced, we have had our field taken away, and it was very frustrating finding a proper field to practice in for competitions. The UCSD archery team takes archery very serious, and after seeing them in various competitions, they deserve their own field to practice in.

UCSD, Sun God Archery, and the other sports organizations deserve a proper place to practice safely and regularly. Taking this space away for a parking lot has little benefit to the students of UCSD and will only be detrimental to the well-being of student athletes and the student population at UCSD.

I know UCSD archery is in need of a place to practice on campus. As an alumni of UC Merced, I understand what it is like to lose your place to practice as well as losing your entire team. As previous president of the club, we were once moved around frequently on campus to the point where our members couldn't keep up with it. Having to walk so far to a location is difficult to incorporate into their schedule. Not all students have the ability to find a place off-campus to practice, nor can they afford it. Recreational activity is important to keep a good, well-rounded student. Taking that away is like removing part of their life.

The multi-purpose field at UCSD is utilized to capacity. Converting this space to a parking structure that does not benefit students will reduce opportunities for students to relieve stress, improve their mental health through exercise, and build leadership and team-player skills while they prepare for competitions (soccer, archery, lacross, and baseball) where they represent UCSD. The Sun God Archery Club at UCSD is recognized as a program that should be replicated both in it's relationship with the school through available space on campus to practice as well as it's leadership and competition results. Furthermore, the loss of this centrally located space with harm not only their success at the local/state/regional/national levels, but will impact negatively the over-all student moral as another resource has been turned into a parking lot for revenue's sake. Don't be the school that takes away all the important facilities to make parking structures for the people who in turn won't have any important facilities to use.

Academic excellence is greatly bolstered when students also have adequate spaces for outdoor activity. We all need to take time to play. When you're a college student living on or near campus without access to a car, the importance of having field space within easy walking distance cannot be overstated, especially when your outdoor sport or activity requires you to bring heavy equipment. Please do not convert the Sports Deck into a parking lot -- the loss to the student community will be keenly felt.

We've already lost half of Warren field, this has to stop sometime! One of the reasons why there's not much alumni support for this school is because there aren't any sports teams to root for. Getting rid of more field space would only decrease alumni support.
