Save these trees our almond trees are one of our many priceless treasures on TI...please do not destroy any of them...they are sacred to us as all of us who grew up in the "OLD TI" days have many stories of our lives with them....all happy treasured memories.

Stop cutting down trees, we need to think how to work around these issue. We don't have any trees as it is,there is hardly any coconut trees on the foreshore,no wongai trees anymore no tamarind trees ,mango trees been chopped down, the Island will look more beautiful with trees not a oval.

As a Ratepayer, I strongly urge Torres Shire Council (TSC) not to remove the Almond Trees!!! The TSC should introduce a Tree Protection Policy and By-Laws if they haven't got them!!! We have already lost too many trees such as the very old fig and mango trees along Douglas Street in the town centre!!! The trees provided character of the place and shade in public spaces. My partner and I saved one very old fig tree from removal in a residential development on Blackhall Street in 2005 which neighboured our property. We lodged a written objection to the TSC and as a result, the location of the buildings on the block were modified to retain the tree!!! We can make a difference if we care enough and take action to protect our trees for the benefit and enjoyment of our local residents and visitors to TI and future generations!!!

Those Almond trees are part of TI and the families and the community that have sat there and those trees have given food to us all. Leave them Alone.

Those almond trees are part of TI. Its a shady area for people to sit and yarn and eat and feel the sea breeze.

Torres Shire Council should STOP and RECONSIDER... THEM TREES WERE PLANTED THERE FOR A PURPOSE AND REASON.. IT'S PART OF OUR HISTORY.. The tree roots helps to hold the ground together, It provides shade for everyone in the community, it bares fruit on its tree to feed the community, when it's season is right and it's part of our Islands identity known as a Tropical Island. WE SHOULD BE PLANTING MORE TREES TO BEAUTIFY OUR HOME ISLAND NOT GET RID OF THEM.. Please consider..??? Football isn't EVERYTHING, I'm a previous football player, according to my knowledge and experience PLAYING ON THAT OVAL you will never get BIG NAME PLAYERS UP THERE due to the width of the oval still won't meet the NRL REQUIREMENTS. If Torres Shire Council upgrade the oval for economy purposes I'm sure there's other avenues you can look at for example; Horn Island bigger space and Land for an Oval, talk to the Traditional Land Owners.. Tagai State High School oval, has the right length and width to upgrade, I'm sure the Board of Education is interested in upgrade to benefit the youths on the Island and the School itself. These are other avenues to consider :-) :-) :-) I'm a concerned resident living on the Island, those trees were part of my upbringing and everyone else in the community it would be sad :( :( :( to see them go, THE TREES ARE FAMILY-FRIENDLY.. We need Oxygen to survive and THEM TREES needs us..
