The world's first Taco Bell was built in 1962 by founder Glenn Bell in Downey, CA. The original building at 7112 Firestone Blvd. still stands, but not for long if we don't convince the Taco Bell Corporation or someone else to save it from the imminent threat of demolition. Please sign this petition and help show Taco Bell that there is public support for the preservation of this historic and culturally significant building. You can also help by tweeting #SaveTacoBell and contacting Taco Bell Corporate. The Downey Conservancy is a "community-based organization dedicated to promoting and supporting the preservation of the culturally and historically significant resources of the City of Downey." In addition to being the home of the world's first Taco Bell, Downey also lays claim to the oldest operating McDonald's, which was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2006.

This is not only a great piece of this City's history, but as well as a family memory. I grew up going to this place and playing as a kid at the tree here!

my father Kelly Pellerin owned that Taco Bell in the late 60's thru the 70's I worked there all thru high school and so did many of my friends. It was a Warren Hichschool hang out. So many wonderful memories we had there. My dad loved that place

Would like to see Taco Bell do the same as McDonalds did with the small museum on Florence & Lakewood. Have the City of Downey promote a historical route of the many historical points that are remaining and install small plaques for those are not gone.

As a Downey native, this would mean so much. We have the oldest McDonalds, and this would make the perfect twin to that, on the same historic type of platform.

I watched the family digging the hole for the foundation. It would be so sad to see it go. It is an American icon all around the world. Please save
