Although I haven't used this archive in the past there is every chance that I, like so many others, may need to in the future. The archive belongs to the people and the people should be able to access the information as and when they need. Please reconsider the decision to cut the service.

I live in New Zealand but travel to the UK to carry out local and family history studies. The Worcs Archives are always on my visit list for their invaluable collections of priceless original historical documents. Downgrading the services there deprive not only the Worcs people but also the Worcs diaspora of access to its social heritage. Please ensure that both the archives, and access to them, is preserved!

As a historian I research Worcestershire Archives' original documents for journal articles, talks for local history societies and for people out of the area who cannot visit. I'm a member of Worcestershire Local History Forum through Midland Ancestors Stourbridge Branch and have given talks to WLHF and Friends of Worcestershire Archives, none of which could have been completed without seeing original documents.

And the next step will be.........”we are spending too much on keeping the Archives, nobody looks at them. Best destroy the lot, just think how much money we will save!

It would be a disaster for history/genealogy if the records were unavailable for public usage.

When family history research is getting so popular it is a crime to close such places down. The internet is a wonderful tool but there is nothing more gratifying than coming across a document signed by your grandfather from the year 1938. This was in the Wolverhampton Archives. Keep the archives open.
