Save the West Berkeley Shellmound

Haven't we taken enough from the native people of this land?

Indigenous land is being destroyed or desecrated throughout the nation. It is easy to support Standing Rock, since it is far away and does not have a direct impact on our lives or economy. The Berkeley Shellmound is in our community and preserving it will demonstrate that we are willing to make hard choices for the benefit of indigenous people. We must recognize indigenous rights, culture, and sovereignty.

We need shellmounds and sacred land more than we need malls and apartments. Please do the right thing.

Please respect the rights of native peoples and preserve this sacred land.

Please stop violating sacred space. Respect the rights of native peoples.

This is a historic site, and should remain that way. 4th street doesn't need more condos and shops.

Berkeley needs to learn to not develop every square foot of green space; especially when it is a sacred cultural site as this.

Shellmounds are sacred to the people who cultivated the land way before the technology we have today. It is sad how people only know Shellmound as a street name. We need to learn more about the history where we live.

This sacred site is important both for the Ohlone people and also for settler people who need to deepen their understanding of the original people's of this land. Settler people must honor these sacred sites.

Native history and culture matters. Protect and respect it.

Let us be the generation to end the centuries-long attacks on Native dignity by white settlers. We need healing and sacred spaces more than a shopping complex!

It's time to walk the talk and stand up for the rights of indigenous peoples.

It is not right to desecrate any people's sacred spaces especially burial grounds. This is a violation of the human right to honor our dead and to respect sacred, spiritual practice.
