Honor the rights of the ohlone

Preserving the shell mound is much more important, both symbolically as a statement of respect for our Ohlone sisters and brothers, than building commercial structures on this land. Our children and grandchildren and their children will benefit from learning the early history of our community and the way that the Ohlone people suffered.

Please use your sense of understanding and make a clear decision to respect the requests of the elders to protect the shellmounds.

Be accountable.

Berkeley resident and voter opposing development on Ohlone sites without meaningful, extensive consultation and collaboration with the Ohlone community.

Protect our native lands!

This sacred place should not be "up for grabs" to the highest bidder, but preserved and protected as the treasure that it is. The very question of availability is horrifying: the nation should be protecting this ancient sanctuary as it would any temple or monument that was more closely associated with Western religion.

If the development continues after identifying sacred burial items and remains, it is not a loss for the real estate market it is a loss for Berkeley. We could have an amazing educational opportunity here to attract and draw people to learn more about the Ohlone without sacrificing our values to engage the community in a positive way.

We should respect the land of the original people. There are plenty of other sites to build luxury shopping malls but a sacred site cannot be moved!

City of Berkeley your responsibility is to respect the local indigenous people by listening to their wisdom and demands about protecting their sacred sites.

We already live on stolen land. The least we can do is respect what little unique land Native people have left.

We cannot allow developers to wreak havoc on both our history and our present. What little history we have left of the native peoples of the bay area must be respected and preserved. Other land is out there -- there are at least 5 abandoned buildings within 2 blocks of my house. There is no reason to allow this project at this location.
