The Vaquita is the smallest cetacean, a group of marine mammals including porpoises whales and dolphins, and is in extreme danger of extinction in its only known location, the Sea of Cortez in the California Gulf coast. They are being killed by illegal gill nets when they get snagged in them. The gill nets are not meant for the Vaquita, and many more could spell the end of the species forever. There are only around and probably even less than 40 Vaquita left, and only in the Seas of Cortez.
