I can't imagine the UW without the Faculty Club. UC Berkeley has a splendid faculty club, as does UBC.

Virtually all of the interdisciplinary initiatives and coauthored papers I participated in were hatched at the Faculty Club. And what a gem it was to have someplace to go alone to get work done while feeling in community. There is no substitute on campus.

My Dad, Robert Albrecht, started an informal group called the Wednesday Lunch Bunch that met weekly at the Club for 20 years. Anyone could join the WLB just by sitting down and sharing in the conversation. The WLB continues weekly on Zoom - even after the loss of both my Dad and the UW Club. Bring back the UW Club and you will see the Wednesday Lunch Bunch again - every Wednesday.

It is more important than ever to reopen communication between 'silos'. The UW Club made that possible in the past. Bring it back!

The UW Club is more than that: it's the home of a decades-long, intergenerational, university wide community, the origin of friendships, collaborations, dialogues. Please do not take it away.
