Save the UW Club!

I agree with the many positive comments here already. The UW Club was a very special place to me for 20 years. I'd love to see it come back!

This is a wonderful tradition at the UW, and should be continued!

Necessary for collegial partnerships and for guests.

This has been a vital piece of UW's community until UW allowed Covid to kill it. We paid dues to supplement its sales income for decades. UW needs to open it back up forthwith!

I am grateful for the UW club - I often drank coffee and graded there, met with colleagues across campus there, and enjoyed lunch with our graduation speakers there. UW is a better and more collegial, collaborative campus with the UW club!

We held our "honors lunch" at the UW club for our amazing Math students and their families.

The UW faculty deserve to have a place where they can socialize, dine, have a drink and bring some colleague or friends, like most other major universities.

As so many colleagues have said, the Club was such an important part of university life at UW, from a place to host university guests, donors, and prospective colleagues to a space that made one feel welcomed and valued.

In addition, a faculty club is a historic component of major American Universities. We should not continue without. Please consider renaming it the Faculty Club, to honor the faculty ( while continuing to allow broader community to join).

This space was so important for us to gather on campus, bring guests, and have a place for faculty, staff, and our guests to convene. Please consider re-creating this space for us on campus.

A University must have a common gathering place. Without one, the institution has no heart and no support for community. Put money into saving our beautiful and unique UW Club.

This is no sentimental issue: the Club has provided an indispensable place for meetings and conversation for decades. I would gladly pay increased dues and prices. We really need this--faculty present and Emeritus students and visiting colleagues. Don't abandon this.

You could point out that the UW Club building exists because the faculty paid for it. Under the leadership of Professor Robert Sutermeister the Club floated bonds which the faculty bought and the proceeds paid for the building.

Let's save this icon of the time when the UW first started growing rapidly and of faculty leadership in creating this well-designed and welcoming gathering place.

Whenever I've gone to the UW Club over the past year plus to participate in the Husky COVID Testing Study, I stand there amid bags of testing trash and feel depressed about the future prospect of vibrant community life on campus. Please reopen and transform it as a space to gather and connect.

A lively conversation on the AAUP list server supports reviving the UW Club as an important venue for building faculty community, perhaps with a name change to make it feel more inclusive.

Please bring back this storied institution.

I particularly like the Faculty Club as a place to take candidates interviewing for positions. However, I do think its perception as an "old boys' club" is problematic. We should explore ways to make it more inclusive. Maybe price memberships on a sliding-scale basis and open memberships up to graduate students, in addition to staff and faculty.

This is a critical and essential resource for our university community, and its absence has left a huge gap. I urge the Administration to prioritize the UW Club's reopening, invest in necessary physical maintenance and restoration, and work with Club members and leaders to ensure its long-term financial security.
