I am not from Flemington, or New Jersey come to that, but I came to this site out of support for a friend who grew up in Flemington. I also love old buildings with character and wish that people were more often inclined to repurpose and rehab old buildings rather than destroy them. The buildings in the photos look wonderful and I hope that they are able to be saved.

My family is from here and we always recommend it as a tourist destination, because of Flemington's beauty and tradition. Shame on those wanting to demolish the small town charm, beauty and tradition.

Proposed building is much too large and 3 historic building will be razed for no good reason. A small group of people are destroying the legacy of Flemington. What happened to democracy?

I belivethat it wont be a great idea to knock down the Union Hotel. I say restore it as much as you possibly can starting from the first floor and working your way to the fourth floor. the hotel alone has a lot of history not just with the kidnapping trial that took plce but their is also other known history its what made Flemington a very popular location in the state of New Jersey. I honestly knew of Flemington and wanted to live in Flemington because of that hotel specifically the history and lots of research on/behind it is amazing not only that it would be great for schools of hunterdon county speak about the history, we are too focused on income but knocking down the hotel & rebuilding how are you sure if it will be money? If you start with the first floor clean up/repair you could actually turn it into a 1920's themed café for tourist/residents. I would be more than happy to communicate any ideas that I have in mind.

It's so important to keep these historic buildings, a proof to show future generations the beautiful craftsmanship & architecture of a time long gone. Renovate the interiors & keep the historic integrity of the buildings.

New development can be cultivated in a lot of places (and should be encouraged). But, redeveloping this site which already has viable, historic buildings is short-sighted and wasteful. Please let this community retain its historic character and put up this mixed-use building somewhere else.

What a shame is would be to destroy irreplaceable history and architecture. Why not remodel the buildings to accommodate the current ideas of development? Living in Charlotte, NC I have saw many historic building being demolished for the " best" new buildings. Our city has now lost nearly all of its history from building demolition. We have all these new buildings that all look identical. How bland our city has become!!

Heard about the plan on edge last week and wondered about tax abutments and where council members and freeholders come down on the plan. People need to know in order to cast an informed vote next month.
