I was born and raised in Hunterdon County and say to the borough, GET YOUR ACT TOGETHER! You cannot dream of decimating the heart of historical Flemington the same way the surrounding township has been.

This is very important to save this historic structure as a base for the town's future. To destroy this for a developer's "dreams" is not only stupid, it is unthinkable.

Lived in raritan township for 26 years. This is a travesty. Tearing it down will ruin Main Street forever. Let's see some designs that enhance our small town, not make it look like any other overdeveloped town. You are not filling the empty buildings that are therefore now. Rethink this!!

Destroying the hotel is destroying history. Having chosen Flemington as my home 24 years agile we frequented the hotel many times till it was closed. We need to maintain history not make main street look foreign and not positive. Don't tear down the hotel for a big not needed building and surroundings.

A Union Hotel historical renovation would be a sign of national pride and success for Flemington. If that block is torn down, I will never step foot in that town again.

The only reason the Union Hotel closed was due to piss poor management. In the early 90's it was the only venue to go to on a Friday and Sat night with live bands etc. When Stan past away the new owners changed the business model eliminating much of what made the business profitable- now sad to see a great piece of historical real estate is looking doomed because some investors who had no clue about the business they bought ran it in the ground. I hope the people of New Jersey do the right thing.

I am very much against tearing down these buildings. At the same time if the buildings are restored and used that's great but also at the same time it's very inportant to make Flemington Center very successful.
A few ideas have been going through my head and I'd like to share them.
1. Diverting traffic and making a pedestrian square in from the newly restored Hotel and courthouse.
2. Developing and art cinema like the County Theater in Doylestown. -That is so well run , perhaps this could be a branch. A perfect location would be the building now marked for demolition which is said to be a replica of Ford's Theater.
3. Inviting businesses that have very successful track records like Jakes on Rt 202 to open a branch bistro in the hotel or nearby. Even a Starbucks, although a chain, has proved to be very good for town centers and respectful of historic architecture.. Look at Doylestown, Newtown and New Hope.

A historic downtown can be a revenue-driver, tourist destination, and raise property values for the entire borough. All historic downtowns go through "rough patches"—whether or not they emerge stronger and better is the reflection of true leadership. Unfortunately, we have lost many historic structures due to political incompetence in the face of short-term thinking and glassy box appeal. Restoring downtown will be tough but it will also provide many more jobs than razing the buildings. I urge the council to rethink this plan and save the past of the future.
