This is a Treasure that should be saved from the wrecking ball. I think Cust's proposal is too aggressive. Too many historical building will be sacrificed with his plan, including the Union Hotel.

Why get rid of something unique to put up something you could find anywhere? They need to do something to liven up downtown, but use the hotel as the centerpiece to do it.

It would be a terrible tragedy to the town of Flemington to lose the architectural and historic value of the "Union Hotel". Please do not allow the facade of the building to be changed by a developer.

As a young child, I enjoyed having lunch at the Union Hotel, which boasted a wonderful restaurant before it was inexplicably closed down. I now live in Raleigh, NC, which is full of malls, retail stores, and chain restaurants. Everything is uniformly paved-over, mid-priced, and mundane, from the Southern and modern American cuisine to the clothes that you could find in whatever other town you happened to be in. There are no mom-and-pop restaurants, no wacky antique and clothing stores, and no historical buildings of interest, unless you count the government buildings the public can't conveniently access. Beauty and culture have been sacrificed to convenience and an over-satiated consumer society. History and uniqueness make a town. They draw both locals and tourists to see the cultural gems the town has to offer. How often have I wanted to trade Raleigh for Flemington again! Happily, I am young, and have hope of leaving this blase city behind me some day. Destroying the Union Hotel is the perfect first step toward creating another Raleigh. Don't make that fatal mistake.

I am my husband and daughter enjoyed so many lovely lunches at the Flemington Hotel. I especially loved their spinach salads. We were so sad when it closed several years back. We lived in Lambertville for 20 years, and the Lambertville Inn received loving care that restored life and beauty to the town. Do the same with the Union Hotel!

Had many special family Sunday dinners there. All the "historic district" rules don' t seem to apply to some people I guess. My wife's grandpop was a borough cop during the Lindburgh Trial and one of the famous pictures he's in front of the courthouse controlling the crowd. (One of the original Thatchers from the hill). To much National history to just bulldoze for another empty storefront or office building.

Sensible revitalization incorporated both the old and the new. You can have as many shops as you can build, but there must be attractions. One such attraction is the historic charm that was this town, and can be again!

This is truly disappointing to hear. First the old movie theatre... now this. What a shame.
I was also under the impression that historical buildings had to remain as such in Flemington to preserve the historical relevance of the town. Why would this be any different for the hotel. Why not replicate???
