please save this building. I hate to see history being torn down.

Given the history and age this building should not be demolished. If anything it should be restored and re opened

My great grandparents lived right behind the hotel at 20 Bloomfield ave during the lindbergh trial.
My grandfather was an electrician in Flemington for many years. That building has always had a pull on me it was gorgeous the last time I was in it and i remember it vividly. ❤

Destroying this building would be a tragedy. John Kenneth Galbraith said this: “The preservation movement has one great curiosity. There is never any retrospective controversy or regret. Preservationists are the only people in the world who are invariably confirmed in their wisdom after the fact.”

I passed by this building today, and knowing that they want to knock it down broke a piece of my heart. Development can happen even with historical architecture. And it should happen in that way. While I believe the town needs restoring, there is no need to tear down something so beautiful.

There is absolutely no reason to demolish this building. I agree that Flemington is in need of development, but it needs the "right" development. The historic movie theater on the corner of RT 31 and Church was torn down and now we have a Walgreen's. I don't drive by there and say "WOW... what an awesome looking pharmacy."
We can learn a lesson Berlin, Maryland, a town that also suffered an economic and social downfall. In 2014 it was named America's Coolest Small Town. Check it out.... https://berlinmd.gov/

We have farmland preservation, now we need historical buildings preservation. People want to destroy what they don't understand. What makes Hunterdon county special is the farmland, open land, and historical buildings. Today the target of folly is the Union Hotel and 78 Main Street, tomorrow it may be the covered bridge...

Lived in Flemington my entire life of 67 years. My father's family lived here for many generations. It would be a crime to see theses historical buildings come down. It will not entice new business. The construction will be abominable to those who live on Main, Park, Broad, Spring, Maple and all other close streets. Look at Liberty village, it is no longer successful and no longer attracts tourism. Demolishing the buildings will be a failed enterprise. The old theatre is another example, it was a crime to destroy and ruin it. Work with what we have, improve,repair, upgrade a little....don't demolish.
