Please DO NOT kill the HEART of Flemington. Yes we have lost so much in entertainment, ex. the Flemington Fair Grounds, a bowling alley, and movie theaters (yes plural). The Union Hotel was the hub of Flemington. Please preserve its' history. The building that holds the police station on Main Street I believe was modeled after Ford's Theatre, where Abraham Lincoln was shot; were I read in Flemington's history in Flemington's Public Library. The town has so much history please keep it. Save our Flemington history!

I now live in Kentucky but went home for a visit 2yrs ago and could not believe the fairgrounds n racetrack were gone I had all my childhood memories there and so much had changed I almost didn't enjoy it! I 100% support saving the Union Hotel. It represents the wonderful historical character that is Flemington. It sickens me that others feel that destroying this treasure will make things better.

I grew up in the area and went to school at HCHS. My proof that the 'demolition plan' doesn't work is the town I currently live in. 33 years later, after demo of some of the only history left, they're STILL trying to figure out how to make the core downtown area vibrant again. They should have left it alone the first time. Flemington peeps - you would be wise to learn from the mistakes of others and preserve what you have! "Developers with a vision" only see as far as their bank account balance.

Please developers restore the Union Hotel or at least keep the front elevation. As a former New Yorker I enjoy visiting Lambertville, Montclair, New hope and other charming towns because of the history. I AM the younger generation and what is COOL is mixing old and new wit a vibrant downtown. In fact it's not a young generation thing, look at Europe, Canada and other places---authentic, original with some modernity and electric. Honestly a successful town is similar to Red Bank, Westfield where all ages get to enjoy. Redeveloping is important. But building a non generic building that could be found anywhere won't bring visitors. What brings visitors is uniqueness and honestly trains. I'm not even from hunterdon county and am sad for those that live in town. The charm seems to be gone. At this point they may as well build a Walmart in the center of town. Shameful and frankly a lack of vision. Perhaps if you had adopted Flemington Fresh and really build a following the town would be something, to me it's just a bunch of typical buildings. I see why people leave NJ now, old developers with no vision. Hire the historic architects and pattern the old architecture and new with art, food and trains. That's the formula: walkable and community. How sad that there are no theaters all torn down for strip malls? Laughable that's why folks are leaving NJ, strip mall culture is over. Developers needs to travel more and think betterment of community, not simply about the bottom line. I hope this petition helps. Talk to people under 50 that has travelled out of jersey. You'll understand why folks are leaving Jersey, all that was charming is truly gone. Lambertville you have my patronage. Hudson Valley Gorgeous and worth every penny to live there.

I have been in this hotel many times when it was opened. I love it's history. I go to Flemington to see all the Victoian homes, the old court house and the Union Hotel. If this would change, I would not go to Flemington any more.

Just moved to Flemington from NY to get away from modernized mall like places and to live somewhere with quaint history. Don't destroy it!
