Many other towns have successfully saved historic buildings and incorporated them into a new vision. Somerville being one. The facades can be saved if that is more feasible, a lot of towns and even large cities do it. A lot of us live her because we actually LIKE the small town charm and do not want our little town turned upside down. We have lost too many significant buildings already! Once they are gone what remains of Flemington?!

Flemington's main street is a rare treat in a state and a country where too many traditional downtowns have been destroyed. Adaptive use is not only possible, it is more sustainable both environmentally and fiscally for the borough in the long-run. Smaller properties with diverse owners and tenants makes a community more resilient. These buildings have been standing for over 100 years; they are still standing and are still beautiful, even in their current state. If they're torn down now because of a lack of vision and a lack of perspective then they're gone forever and cannot be replaced. Why throw something away that hasn't outlived it's useful life? Demolition by neglect is real. Don't buy the lie a don't waste this opportunity.

As a relatively new resident of Flemington, a large part of the appeal for our move was the rich history and character of the downtown and memories I had as a teenager enjoying a meal at the Union Hotel. The combination of the many commercial conveniences that surround the downtown, and the authentic historical experience of main street makes Flemington an ideal place to live. If we lose the history, we jeopardize the culture and attraction to Flemington, we become just another commercial hub.
The decision in front of us is important, and requires reflection and wisdom to choose the right economic development plan that leverages these historical buildings, not replaces them.

Just ask the people in Milford how they feel about the Gibson House being demolished many years ago. They regret it and it is too late now.

Be aware that it is a standing developer's ploy in New Jersey to make an outrageous building project proposal like this one and then after public outcry make like he is giving into opposition demands and unveil the project he actually wants to construct.

The proposed plan for Flemington Is ridiculous! Every other historical town in the area as well across the country embraces its historic buildings & repurposes them, not tear them down because it is easier! Makes you wonder if there is some other agenda going on!

Please save the historic Union Hotel. We lost the Kuser Mansion at High Point and then Greystone in Morris County. Let's not lose another gem!

As someone who was apart of the Preserve Greystone movement, we can not sit back and have faith that someone will intervene and advocate for the restoration and repurposing of the Union Hotel. Greystone was a colossal structure, an architectural gem that was internationally recognized as one of the most unique and progressive buildings ever built. If Greystone's destruction is any indication, New Jersey will not advocate to save this building and it's going to be on the people of New Jersey to fight to save this building.

Why would the Town allow the demolition of historic buildings and replaced with another hotel, a parking garage,and apartments. All 6 to 7 stories high? This is ludicrous!

These buildings are why we moved to Flemington. We the citizens of Flemington and Raritan need raise the funds to prevent the destruction of the buildings and the Homogenization of America from infecting our downtown.

To demolish such a prominent historic structure is tantamount to murder. In recent times it seems that we as a society have lost sight of reality and now we are seeking to demolish anything linking us to our past.
To demolish this beautiful old hotel is to commit a crime against the citizens of Flemmington, against the citizens of New Jersey, and against all those who have come before us. To desecrate this landmark structure with a wholly unnecessary demolition is to desecrate the graves of those who designed the building as well as the graves of those who built it.
To pursue demolishing this structure is to spit in the faces of the public.
